Anticipating the Gold Line route:

I apologize if this has been posted before. Nothing turned up in multiple searches, although I'd find it odd if it's never been posted before.

Super Chief, 8:45am, 25 January 1948:

http://www.retronaut.com/2013/03/tra...-through-wall/

After arriving from Chicago, engine #19L uncoupled from its cars and attempted to enter a switch. However, it failed to brake, crashing through a steel bumper post and concrete wall, coming to rest suspended 20 feet over Aliso Street not far from Philippe's. A 250-ton crane took five hours to get it back on the track. No one was hurt. Wiki reports that the engineer lost his job over the incident.

An encore for the historic Dunbar Hotel

"Once the home of jazz greats in the heart of the African American music scene, the Central Avenue hotel had fallen on hard times. It's now been revived as a senior-living facility."

Over a dozen pictures included as well.

I did hear that Lt. Larry was often seen around town in his drag outfit when he was off-duty. Keeping quiet about this. [middle person - front row.]

Fatal bus/tow truck accident this morning at the old Milliron's. I seem to remember a historic accident there but couldn't find it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about b/c I don't. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=11039

Many Great LA Photos at this Site

I found this great set of 173 vintage photos. Some of you will click on the link but I know it will not tempt everyone. Those who do will be rewarded.
Most I had not seen before. http://www.flickriver.com/photos/g_c...7625895927403/

Google has a feature where you can search for an image based on a URL of an image. It comes in very handy on this forum when you want to check if something has been posted before. You do a basic image search, and click on the icon of a camera to select search by image

Hello I am new to this amazing thread!!

I think the accident you were referring to at this corner was one that involved an ambulance driver and a couple of doctors. I cant remember the names unfortunately.

Yes, that's the one: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=11039. Tragic, as was yesterday's accident. Our city is not undimmed by human tears by a long shot.

Welcome to the thread.

Thank you alanlutz. That's a very nice collection and even included a shot from Hermosa Beach.

Thank you too to westcork. That's excellent, useful info. sopas ej's post is here: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...43#post5559343
(At least I added a couple of new photos, so don't feel a complete dolt.)

And ProphetM, that's exceeding good news about the Dunbar. Very enjoyable. Thank you for your post.

I haven't been able to get out with my camera to get some good noirish shots. I have been trying to preserve some noir however.

1960 Rambler American. It has original 1960 CA plates.

I have been unable to get the image to show so far . The link should work though.

Hi Drum:
The link does not work. On this website it is usually best to link your photos to an image hosting site such as "photobucket.com". When posting my photos I use photobucket's IMG link. It very easy to use that photo hosting website. I want to see that 1960 Rambler!

It's moving, Tovangar. This beautiful spanish type wall seems to be the last thing that remains of old Aliso Street. At least on its north side. Maybe the like-brand-new Self Storage that you noticed on a previous post remains from the south side but I'm not sure it was the Aliso sidewalk below its north windows.

The current Aliso Street is obviously the old Commercial Street west of Alameda. I guess they thought keeping the popular name Aliso alive that way.

The link won't work for anyone else because it is pointing to your own hard drive on your computer. You will need to upload the photo to web hosting as CityBoyDoug mentioned if you haven't already, and make sure the link goes to that hosted copy of the photo. Or if you pulled it from the web originally, copy that URL and let us here know what that is.

The El Monte Busway/Santa Ana Freeway ROW looks wider than the old Aliso Street's path, yet the entire footprint of the Maier Brewery and the old corner of the self-storage facility are still with us as is the Union Station retaining wall (?). Am I missing something?

(see Wig-Wags answer about what I'm missing here: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=15137)

Hopefully this works. The restoration on this noirish ride is coming along well . Unsure how to post image directly here without having to redirect to a link. Sorry guys, my forum posting skills are a little primitive to say the least

No, not me. It's the excellent ProphetM. The photo is from the link he posted. There's 12 more photos including a historic one of the lobby:
