I love that building too and took a few photos of it. It has a really nice terrasse in the back that is part of CDP.

There are a shitload of interesting buildings in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. On top of some really nifty warehouse/factory conversions, there are some real gems.

Théâtre Sans-fil (a puppet theatre company) uses the old Caserne Letourneux. It's really long and narrow, hard to fit in one photo.

Théâtre Denise-Pelletier recently underwent a complete restoration. I haven't been inside since but it is apparently gorgeous.

Another former fire station now the neighbourood Maison de la Culture

A couple of former banks now a youth centre and funeral home respectively

Bain Morgan was built as a public bath during the depression. It's now a public swimming pool.

Bibliothèque Maisonneuve is still a library.

Marché Maisonneuve, the Jean-Talon/Atwater/Lachine market of the east. The original building was converted to a community centre when the market moved to new buildings next door. Only 4 tourists have ever set foot here!

The new market buildings

Cute puppy heh heh!

Theatre du Rideau vert. Bit rundown, but peculiar and charming.

wonderful thread. Even the most down-trodden Montreal neighborhoods have architectural treasures.

The town of Maisonneuve was actually quite a well-off area at one time, correct?

I think it actually went bankrupt and then merged with Hochelaga.

I think this is Gilford/Drolet. Rideau Vert is just around the corner on St-Denis. I really like this area because of all the wedge-shaped houses caused by Gilford running diagonal.

The restaurant outside of Jardin Botanique is really sweet. It looks as if it may have been built in the 40's or 50's and is set in a magnificent piazza/garden. Great place for a quiet date!

The main building is a solid deco example with some cool details. The fountains and gardens create a really nice entrance.

Actually, Hochelaga merged with Montréal in the late 19th century then Maisonneuve merged immediately following WW I.
