I like the current Block 1 more than the 2010 rendering.

The problem with the 2010 design is how small the tower is. I don't think its an architectural marvel having a short tiny tower on top of a large block podium no matter how unique and stunning the design is. It's still putting lipstick on an ugly pig. I say ugly pig because I think pigs are actually quite cute.. well maybe just the babies and pot belly ones. The big ones when fully grown can be kinda ugly but I digress, why have such a bland podium that doesn't even have but maybe a quarter green roof with trees. So much underutilized space it wouldn't make any sense.

Now had that tower been double the size and at least 40 to 50 floors, then i'd say yea, that is a bad ass tower but come on, it was cheesy the way it was. the tower we are getting makes much better use of the space and has way more square footage. I wasn't too impressed when I first saw the final design, but it has grown on me and actually is not that bad at all and the white color with the color of the windows I think will look pretty sweet. I mean we really could have ended up with worse,..... like that 2010 version.

They should put a large spire at the top of this tower. I'm just gonna leave that idea here.

Or better yet, 2 spires at the northern end.

Two spires on the northern end of this building would give it a Chinese look. That's not a bad thing either since China has some sleek skyscrapers. I'm just not sure we need two buildings with spires so close together. Where I wish we'd get another building with a spire is around the Rainey Street area with one peaking above the rest. I know that the Fairmont will more or less do that, but it's in a bit of a different position. Having a tower along Rainey Street with a spire would create an interesting profile to view from the west/southwest, and from the east side, though, the Fairmont will probably do that also.

how expensive would a spire add-on be? I can't imagine it going through he roof. I love the idea of two spires on each end. Very unique for the states....or even something like that tall one in Perth.

I assume you mean the BankWest tower. I'd be ok with spires on the Greenwater tower if they don't attach a bunch of dishes on it like the one on Perth. Still, what would be the point? To inflate the overall height or to add aesthetics? I don't really see too much value add either way. I really like the spire on 360 though.

Saw this and couldn't stop thinking about Greenwater. It's being built next to the High Line in NYC.

A whole bunch of tower crane sections were delivered to the site today

Update: It's not a tower crane, but I'm betting they'll be there soon with the rate at which Block 1 is being built.

Update on hill country's update. Drove by tonight and the crane tower is erected.. Looks like just the rest of the boom needs to be installed. Another crane will be on the skyline tomorrow!

I like to think of the highrises that will replace each crane. So many...

Nice. I saw that crane truck driving south on I-35 today. I'm surprised it wasn't sticking around to put up the library cranes.
