I am amazed to see how large Anchorage was in the 50s.

This city has always been something special to me. It seems like a "known" jem that no one talks about. I would love to go to Anchorage, and all these buildings being built only tell us how much better the city will become in the future. IMO, Anchorage has a very good future. Alaska is something out of this world, and no one would even guess that a city like anchorage exist in a land many only think bears exist.

Town Square Center 2009-2010

Augustine Energy Center 21 stories U/C still? Soon to be Anchorage's tallest.

BTW how's the new Sarah Palin-Ted Stevens-Putin Moose Tower coming along?

Based on the little googling I've done, I can't find any indication that the Augustine Energy Center ever began construction.

I hope that I'm wrong.

What is the chance that the Augustine Energy Center will actually happen? and what about 605 West Fifth, it's on Emporis???

Anchorage seems like it keeps building more and more and keeps getting better, it's exciting seeing the Alaskan metropolis grow and just looks fantastic, can't wait to see that skyline grow!

I've toured the expansion during various stages of completion. All I can say is I hope it comes together in occupancy. It came across as VERY underwhelming.

Emporis also provides population statistics but they are rarely in sync with Wikipedia so I just take the higher number of the two. In Anchorage's case they are very close though, both pinning the metro population at around 360,000 which surprised me by how much it's grown.

Great photos!
What is the economy like up there right now? I went back to school 2 years ago, and have been thinking about moving up there when I finish. What is the real cost of living up there? I really think it would be a great place to live.
Thanks

Hello SSP peeps, I will be moving to Anchorage in a few days. Hope it's as good as it seems, esp since I miss Denver.

Anchorage would be one of the best places to live in North America. I would assemble a list something like this:

1.) Denver, Colorado
2.) Vancouver, BA
3.) Portland, OR
4.) Chicago, IL
5.) Seattle, WA
6.) Calgary, AB
7.) Boise, ID
8.) Anchorage, AK
9.) Laramie, WY
10.) Salt Lake City, UT
If you like cold and snow, maybe.
