AKER Shipyard

If all this is old news i apologise:

Two years ago three large oil refineries on the Delaware River were looking to close if no byers were found and the Aker Shipyard had no new shipbuilding contracts after 2013. But now all three have been bought and repurposed in some cases related to all the natural gas being produced in PA and the Mid West. The Aker Shipyard has a contract for four new tankers and four more on top of that based on future LNG needs.

You might know that Philadelphia has been a center for shipbuilding from 1690s to 1970 when I think the last ship was built at the Navy Yard. I might be wrong on the 1970 date. Anyway I am happy to see a rebirth in the industrial infastructure on the Deleware River as well as all the new businesses at the Navy Yard.

There is a documented walking tour of the Navy Yard at the link below, it looks very interesting.

Thanks for the awesome update Pennsgrant! The cladding for The Grove looks great in the photo, what was your impression from seeing it in person? I also really like the look of the Goldtex, but dang if it isn't taking them forever. I walked by the 13th Spruce the other day. I kind of wish they could permanently clad it in whatever that silver foil insulating material is, it looks super modern the way it is.

Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk

Whoa! That is way further out in the river than I'd expected.

Singh update

Trees have been planted, sculpture arrives this weekend, and the sod should be laid next week. Should all be done by next Friday.

"We Lost" finally comes out of storage!

It actually will be appropriate for this location, unlike its previous home on Penn's more traditional College Green (where it stood out like the proverbial sore thumb, in my humble opinion).

I can't wait to find out about the pricing of this building - mostly so I can learn that I can't afford to live here.
