Will wait till I get better to go back. riverside GC is neat at night since it's so dark and usually no one around.. Skiing amongst the coyotes.

Borrowed some gear from a friend and going to try Skijoring with the big dog this weekend over at Hermitage. That should be interesting
Victoria Golf Course has set track as well.

Vic is good, but not much variety and BUSY.

I prefer Riverside at night and plan Goldbar a few times as well.

Next weekend is Elk Island and planning a Jasper back-country as well.

Maybe the most unique and interesting winter experience Edmonton has to offer.

February 5 to 6, 6 p.m. to 12 a.m, Millcreek.

http://www.flyingcanoevolant.ca
------

In the snow-blanketed courtyard of La Cité Francophone, a fire crackles in the open air, accordion music escapes from a nearby tent along with a chorus of children's voices, and propped up on a snowbank, is a canoe.

Daniel Cournoyer stands on the winter patio at Café Bicyclette, wearing a red voyageur toque and a rosy-cheeked smile. To Daniel, Executive Director of La Cité Francophone and Producer of Flying Canoe Volant, winter is synonymous with fun. As a kid, Daniel says he would, "Wake up at seven o'clock in the morning, grab the toboggan in the darkness, and walk over to the local hill." According to Daniel, when you're outside in the cold, you've got to keep moving to stay warm and, during the Flying Canoe festival, he'll be bustling around at night, up and down the illuminated trail that runs between Mill Creek Ravine and La Cité Francophone.

Don't hibernate, participate!

Enjoy the crisp air and the sound of snow crunching under your boots as part of Alberta’s Winter Walk Day! Councillor Bev Esslinger will start the walk by bringing greetings from the City. Walk Edmonton, Winter Cities Edmonton and Be Fit For Life will lead participants on a 45-minute walk.
Date: Wednesday, February 3, 2016
Time: 12:00 – 12:45 p.m.
Location: City Hall Plaza (South steps), # 1 Sir Winston Churchill Square

The first 100 walkers to arrive will receive free giveaways. Hot chocolate will be available for all participants.

Winter Walk Day is a province-wide initiative to get Albertans up and moving during the winter months. Every year on the first Wednesday of February, almost a hundred thousand Albertans step outside to celebrate winter while promoting the year-round health benefits of walking.

Can’t make it to City Hall? Forge your own path with a walk outside your home, school, workplace or favourite pedestrian-friendly area. Share photos via Facebook and Twitter using the hashtags #WinterWalkDay and #yeg to show Canada how Edmonton embraces winter.

Warm weather shuts down Edmonton’s Ice Castle early
http://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/warm-weat...arly-1.2786865

Quote:
The warm weather has melted away the Edmonton Ice Castles ahead of schedule.

Organizers had hoped to stay open until March, but an unseasonably warm stretch of February has meant an early closure.

The final day for the attraction at Hawrelak Park is Monday, February 22.

However, for people who were planning on going before it closed, tickets for the popular exhibit are already sold out.

This was the first year the ice castle exhibit had been built Canada.

Agreed! I'd love to see the City actually attempt something to the scale as was first pitched a few years back...

In Fulton Ravine this weekend. Probably one of the best races I have been in locally.

This is perfect weather for Cyclocross.

No Crashed Ice for 2017 - Edmonton stepped aside so that Ottawa can host it as part of the 150th birthday celebrations.

*checks climate similarities between Sapporo & Edmonton*

Yeah. I think keeping it in City Hall during the winter is a better idea.

(Kudos, Ian. Took you a couple days after getting back to start posting incompatible ideas lifted from your most recent vacation. Progress!)

Not 'the city market', but a winter marketplace that works with them. It is FAR more humid there, -2C felt like -10.

Don't, please.

Sapporo is one of the snowiest cities in the world. Might be the snowiest, I forget. The thing about the snow is that it has lots of opportunities to melt so it is much more similar to St. John's than to Edmonton.
