Well tonight we see how the city handles the full RC and numerous other events downtown at the same time. Expect a lot of complaints about LRT service. I was going to head down just to see how the area feels but decided to avoid it and hit a local pub instead.

For sure. I know this normally-not-a-patio guy will be on at least one, if not more.

Maybe they can close the Commerce Place location. The transient population using it as a day and night care place might relocate and give the place a lift to attract some upscale retail tenants.

One of the best things that could happen to Commerce Place.

That transient population will simply move to the rumored 104 St location. Which would be ironic, given the location's prior history as the Cecil Hotel. I should also point out that the Commerce Place Timmys used to be Henry Singer, an upscale retail tenant.

Some random downtown stuff:
  • The Joey on Jasper space is slowly converting to a Local Public Eatery - there are now some window coverings that say coming in 2017.
  • Looks like some exterior work has been happening with the rest of the Allard Block, most notably Who Cares? and Second Cup.
  • The former Shoppers space at Jasper/114 St has the lights on but lease signs are still up. Might be some cleanup work but would like to see something happen there.
  • It's been a while since I have seen any activity at the Alder Room and Alta in the former Wee Book Inn space, and they were supposed to open during the summer - are they gonna open at all, or what?
  • Work is happening in the Moriarty space, soon to be Artworks from ECC

not a huge fan of jysk but sometimes they just have what you need

does anyone know where its is opening? the website lists 3 locations but i think those are existing, (south edmonton, north edmonton and mayfield common) no info on the site for the "new" location

JYSK Plans Aggressive Canadian Store Expansion

Quote:
According to Director of Advertising Lynne Williams, JYSK will open four more stores this year — a location opened in Trois Rivieres, Quebec last week, and stores will soon open in Edmonton, Oshawa ON, and at Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga. JYSK will continue with expansion plans into 2017 with stores in Ontario (Hamilton, Brampton and possibly Cambridge), in Laval and Sherbrooke Quebec, as well as on Vancouver Island and in the Maritimes.

Alder/Alta is the usual 6months behind for restau openings... but still going forward as far as I know.

Yup, cannot wait for them to open there, much better location.

They're going to need some shoes in there if they want to make money.

Heard on the news that Sears is closing in Bonnie Doon Mall by end of January; after that, mixed-use development is being considered by the mall management.

Bonnie Doon probably has the most potential for a mixed-used retail/residential redevelopment in the inner city. With LRT being built to it, who wouldn't want to be within walking distance of a station only minutes by train from downtown...

MASSIVE TOD potential. I suspect that we will see 2-3 towers there on the north side to incorporate a new health facility and tie the mall in better.

hey... this is edmonton and all edmontonians know you need to add at least a year or two to any completion date. that's how we do things.
