To those who paid $500 to watch that crap .. all I can say is wake up and smell the roses. That was horrible football. Poorly thown balls, dropped passes and spotty tackling.

If anything having these games in Toronto can only help the CFL, that is if people in Toronto appreciate good football.

This exercise was just a test to see how many suckers there is in Toronto.

Even if you love the NFL, why wouldn't you drive 90 minutes to an NFL stadium, with much better atmosphere and much cheaper. Instead Ralph Wilson is laughing to the bank and Rogers is realizing Torontonians aren't stupid enough to not know their getting played.

They couldn't even give tickets away. Good Riddance.

An open letter to all Argos fans

December 03, 2009

BOB NICHOLSON

It was great seeing so many of you at the Grey Cup festivities in Calgary. Several of you asked me to clarify what is happening with a potential move of the Toronto Argonauts to BMO Field, as recently reported in the media. I wanted to send you a note to keep you informed about these reports.

We at the Toronto Argonauts are preparing to play at Rogers Centre in 2010. By now, our season tickets holders have received renewal notices for their seats at Rogers Centre. At the same time, we are working with the CFL to conduct a feasibility study to see if it is even possible to play our game at BMO Field. This review will take place during the next month. We at the Argos will immediately advise our fans of any plans as they arise but at this time, there has been no decision to relocate.

Our ownership is committed to putting the best product on the field and delivering the best gameday experience for our fans. The feasibility study at BMO Field will help us determine if our fan experience can be enhanced with better sight-lines, closer proximity to the field and a more intimate facility, while upholding the standards of our League.

While a move in time for the 2010 season is far from certain, any season ticket holder who renews their seat at Rogers Centre would have the option of a refund if the team moves to BMO Field. Again, this is all speculative until the feasibility study is complete. We will continue to act in the best interests of our amazing fans, the CFL game and our franchise.

All the best to your and yours in this holiday season.

Sincerely,

Bob Nicholson
President & CEO
Toronto Argonauts Football Club

Should there be a All-Star Game?

All-Star Game, Yes or No?

Should it only be fair for players who achieve or gain a All-Star factor to participate in a Official All-Star Game in the CFL after the Grey Cup?

If a game was approved upon where would it be played, how would this be decided who gets it?

The CFL would benefit from a few things, an additional game showing the talent the people have chosen to see play. A Pro League should have a All-Star game to show true Professionalism, hey this isn't just some mock league where drug addicting or arrested NFL players can rest till they can rejoin the following year. In that case is no longer allowed by the CFL. Two the CFL would make money off many of the new merchandises produced from this additional game. Not to mention the advertising during this singular game.

Personally I would love to see this, why choose or have a program that selects All-Stars only to not see them compete. Allowing people to vote should also allow them to see these players compete in a game. Now maybe the option of this may be more appropriate if there were a few more teams added to incorporate more players and more options.

I really hope the Argos relocate to BMO Field. Rogers Centre just kills it.

To me it's still the SkyDome screw Rogers.. I agree the BMO Field is nice but what about the extra yardage?

I believe BMO Field is suppose to expand, it's one of the venues for the 2015 Pan Am Games.

Ohhhh I did see that, guess it went over my head. They would have to blow the end zone areas out more and all that fun stuff.

Globe and Mail Update Published on Thursday, Dec. 03, 2009 11:40PM EST
Last updated on Friday, Dec. 04, 2009 2:12AM EST

In an open letter to Toronto Argonauts fans released yesterday, club president Bob Nicholson writes that the CFL team could play its home games at BMO Field as soon as next season.

Nicholson says a move to the 20,000-seat stadium is “far from certain,” but that any season-ticket holder who renews for Rogers Centre would have the option of a refund should the team change home venues.

“We at the Toronto Argonauts are preparing to play at Rogers Centre in 2010,” says the letter posted on the team's website. “At the same time, we are working with the CFL to conduct a feasibility study to see if it is even possible to play our games at BMO Field.” The Argos and the CFL launched the month-long study after club owners David Cynamon and Howard Sokolowski presented the BMO Field proposal to league governors at the Grey Cup last week. The facility, home to Toronto FC of Major League Soccer, cannot accommodate the dimensions of a CFL field, which is 150 yards long (including both end zones), by 65 yards wide.

“[The study] will help us determine if our fan experience can be enhanced with better sight-lines, closer proximity to the field and a more intimate facility, while upholding the standards of our league,” Nicholson writes. “We at the Argos will immediately advise our fans of any plans as they arise … Again, this is all speculative until the feasibility study is complete.”

Cynamon and Sokolowski, who have owned the team since 2003, have said they will weigh their options this off-season, but moving to BMO Field, which is owned by the city of Toronto, would increase the likelihood that the two businessmen remain as owners. If not, B.C. Lions owner David Braley, who has lent the Argos owners money in the past, is expected to look at buying the team, possibly in concert with his sons.

The CFL constitution does not forbid one person or family from owning more than one team.

Both Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which owns TFC and manages BMO Field, and the Canadian Soccer Association, which presides over international matches at the facility, have expressed concerns over football games at the soccer-specific stadium.

The CSA has said football could destroy the new $5-million natural grass surface being installed this year, and TFC fans levy many objections, including the additional field markings required for football.

Even though I personally prefer Canadian football over the American version (by a lot in fact), it is unfair to judge the NFL by just one game or a handful of games.

Sure, the game last night was boring – I watched some of it and fell asleep. The Grey Cup, even before the dramatic final seconds, was way more entertaining.

Still, the NFL is a superb sports entertainment product. It is so good it is almost as addictive as crack. To a lot of people anyway.

I thought they did. I'm sure at this period of time they would be pretty popular to say the least.

Me watching an NFL game is determined by what teams are playing. There's only a small handful of teams that I'll watch. These would include Dallas, Indianapolis, New Orleans, and sometimes the Vikings. Obviously I prefer watching offensive-minded NFL teams.

I don't believe the ones in the 80s were particularly successful, but with the recent CFL renaissance, who knows?

I don't know why but football all-star games are often duds. Maybe it is because the game is so physical players don't go all out for fear of injury.

Even the NFL's Pro Bowl is not really a big deal to anyone.

Baseball is the best (for all-star games at least).

Now we're talking!

Few Changes though:

Switch Rochester for Buffalo, Windsor for Detroit, and Toledo or Akron for Cleveland. It would hard to compete directly in NFL markets.
