How long can this developer and Nassar in Saskatoon get away with holding up real-estate that is as important as this for as long as they have?
I think the difference between this project and Nassers in Toon town is that Nasser hasn't taken anyones money

I just noticed all the wood fencing is gone from the site. There's just the blue wire stuff now. Maybe they needed the wood for fencing off the site in Winnipeg.

I hear piling/shoring was awarded from a really good source, but it was back in December.

Was mentioned in the Regina Construction thread a bit back:

^If someone had taken a photo every hour since then, we'd almost have a 30 minute, 30 frame per second time-lapse.

Even if we started at the Plains demolition (December 2011) it would be 17 minutes long.

I feel truly sad for the folks who invested in that. Thank God my wife talked me out of it.

Honestly; looking at Fortress's website, I feel a little bit confident that Capital Pointe will get built, since they seem to know what they are doing and manged to get quite a few projects done and under construction. http://fortressrealdevelopments.com/projects/

'Once the permit comes in, though, “We’re ready to go,” said Circosta.'

the old "awaiting on permit" gag. With that line this project just lost all credibility.

Are you kidding me? Take a look through some of those projects they listed and how few of them are actually near any state of occupancy... There are a couple new 2 storey builds they have listed as under construction that may be close to occupancy, and a couple old building they bought and didn't do any major construction on which they have shown as complete, but all the others, even the ones they have listed as "complete" have hardly even broken ground. It is scam (IMO).

A scam for what though? They're certainly not making any money - so it's the worst scam ever.

The few down payments they took would have been long spent on original demolition, fence rentals, signage, leasing office, wages, permit fees, etc.

Huge development fees that are taken up front out of funds raised for the project. If the project goes, fantastic. If it doesn't, it doesn't matter - they've already been paid.

They are not even really a building company, they are a financing company and their objective is to direct people to their brokerage firm, using the lure of real estate investment and/or housing, to obtain those deposits and administration fees. Like Simplicity wrote, they don't really care if anything gets built as long as they can maintain the perception that something will get built (as demonstrated by their lack of constructed projects on their website). This is a small handful of "business men" (of which several have already been caught and fined for other illegal financial practices) that are running this scheme across many Canadian cities enough to at least pay themselves a hefty little sum.
