^ That occurred during the protests, when there were already lots of people in Manhattan that potentially could've looted.

I'm describing an essentially armed looting attempt from scratch, from outside of Manhattan, involving rented trucks, vehicles, etc full of tools. That is what happened in downtown Chicago 3 mornings ago.

That, in particular, would be much harder to pull off in Manhattan successfully, for reasons I stated before.

Show me the videos of all these personal cars on fire in New York. Surely they must still be up since you know so much more about the situation than me, who was here while it happened.

It's in the first video I posted. They actually walk up to a burned car, and then show footage of a few other cars burning on the streets. Yea, you're everywhere in NYC, at all times. We know. It's very convincing.

Yet you keep talking about a place you're not in, 3,000 miles away, and saying you think the news coverage is a joke. So what is it?
Unlike you, I don't deny what happened . But it's very odd someone says the NYC riot coverage is a joke, but the LA riot coverage is legit.
That's very strange indeed.

I saw live streams (by youtubers) for both, and it was the same shit.

I said it's the same shit. He's the one tying to push a narrative NYC wasn't that bad. Which is bizarre. Most New Yorkers on reddit had a pretty grounded view of it, since it was happening in front of them. But fake news, I guess.

It looks legit to me. I went back and looked again and it still looks like Santa Monica was very fucked up. Maybe you should worry about your coast, which apparently has some deep seated issues, and I'll worry about mine.

Manhattan needed a retail purge anyway. Not like shops were able to survive before the pandemic with rents being as high as they were.

It's more legit than you, the guy who's everywhere in NYC, 24-7. It only took a short video to prove you wrong. You do know redditors post pictures and videos of their neighborhoods, right?

Yea, no issues on the east coast.
This post just shows you're very biased.

And yet, you know more about the city I live in from 3,000 miles away. Santa Monica was a war zone, was it not? Why aren't you concerned about your own backyard?

A war zone?Like a cop getting beaten and another one getting run over? A third cop getting blasted by a SUV in Manhattan? A war zone, I think about a ton of violence, and that's not what Santa Monica was, no.

We're both going off coverage of something 3000 miles away. I wasn't in NYC and you weren't in LA. They both struggled with looting, that's just the reality.

I was just in Santa Monica yesterday, its fine. But feel free to tell me it's not, since you're 3000 miles away.

I mentioned Manhattan's riots in reponse to your scenario. It actually happened.

He brought up Santa Monica for some reason, even though that has nothing to do with this topic.

That's great.Maybe Manhattan can start becoming more unique again. Chains are the one thing that I hate when I visit NY. They ruin the city. Why go to H&M, Nordstrom, Prada, Etc when I could do it at home. That's idiotic. As well you can get a toothbrush at any bodega. Plus the local markets usually have more local products like NY Bagels. Which are so much better.

I think there is a very myopic view among many about what is happening. Reality is, there is zero about what is happening that is “good”. Yes, some chains will be gone forever but will they be replaced by anything at all? And what about the smaller businesses that got wiped out? The only real beneficiary here is Amazon.....and is that the world we really want?

The “work from home while still getting paid” class just doesn’t get it. Without financial stability these assets fall into disrepair and it happens fast. And if the property owner goes into distress (very likely) and these buildings are seized by banks, we’re in for a world of hurt.

I’LL take the Red Lobster in Times Square over this any day of the week.
