According to the NW Examiner:
Quote:
Killian Pacific’s major redevelopment plans for Lovejoy Square have been shelved in favor of a modest exterior remodel. The courtyard at Northwest 13th and Lovejoy would be enlarged and simplified. Last year, the developer received design approval for a 10-story, 149-foot tall mixed use building on the northern half of the block. In 2017 Killian Pacific still contemplated twin structures filling the entire block.

Mass-timber tower in the works for Portland property

The Portland Design Commission on Thursday got its first look at Welby, proposed as a 15-story, mixed-use building in the Pearl District. Mass timber would be used.

The project at 1325 N.W. Kearney St. comes from developer Killian Pacific, with a design by Bora Architects. It’s the latest iteration of a redevelopment proposal for a half-block site. In January 2018, the Design Commission approved a project known as Lovejoy Square for the same location, but it did not move forward to construction.

The new design calls for 12 floors of residential space above two floors of offices and ground-floor retail space. The Bureau of Development Services valued the project at $85 million.

Welby will meet its inclusionary housing obligations on site, said Michi Slick, director of development at Killian Pacific. Plans call for a mix of residences, including two- and three-bedroom units.
...continues at the DJC (temporarily unlocked).

A revised iteration of this is going to be at the Design Commission on 9/23:

Quote:
DAR for a proposed 22-story mixed-use building in the River District sub-district of Central City. The ground level is proposed to have three retail spaces, lobby and leasing office, and access to below-grade parking, storage, and service areas. Upper levels are proposed to be entirely housing. Proposed exterior materials include metal panel and window wall systems, with a concrete base and curtainwall at the ground level. The proposed massing is built to the street lot lines on floors 1-6; floors 7-21 are set back at the south and east sides with roof terraces at level 7 and level 22.

No Spruce Tree Center for historical green buildings?

I think I'd like the green if they did it with glazed terracotta like the precedent buildings they show. In metal panel I suspect it's just going to look flat and cheap

If that's the case it'll probably be very similar to the Portland Building.

I think the green has the potential to stand out in a good way and draw contrast to a relatively bland color palate in that part of town.

It couldn't possibly turn out worse than the nearby NV, right?

The bigger issue in that location is cheapness. The Ass Flats (er... Asa Flats) building looks cheap Cheap CHEAP (mostly due to the awful metal panels) and the Safeway building looks like they tried to hide a fortress in plain sight. If this Welby ends up looking cheap too... ooof... it'll be one heck of an ugly intersection.

They should hold a poll for what green the building should be, or better yet, just have it go from dark green to light green. Either way, its future name will the The Green Building or Green Giant or something like that.

I've seen some blah buildings that were more interesting prior to cladding, in what ever bright color the sheathing or water barrier are (BlueSkin, StegoWrap, Weather Smart, WrapSheild, etc.) Perhaps a similar effect here?
