there's enough glass in spots now that (in person) it's a lot easier to notice the shading. Lighter glass on the parts that bow out and darker on the parts that bow in.. interesting

still looks pretty blue to me, but whatever

I think that pattern will exaggerate the frustum's form even more. The lighter glass will appear like a fabric being stretched tight over the form. Whereas the darker glass will appear less taught.

I definitely will need to take a stroll down to this one again before it gets too cold. Glass always looks better in person than in picture

Great thing about the different shades of glass is that it's not solely an aesthetic feature. I can't find my source on this so I don't want to get into detail, but having certain tints on certain floors will help conserve heating and cooling energy, earning the building more points from LEED. They are going for silver certification

http://www.glaziersunionlocal27.com/

The local 27 glazer Union folk better dress warm this winter. I hope they get a lot of OT too while they are at it.

They are hiring BTW

Requirements for taking the Apprenticeship Aptitude Test:

•Birth Certificate

•Social Security Card

•High School Diploma / GED

•Drivers License

•Non refundable Test Fee

You must pass a drug screening. / You must have reliable transportation.

_______________________________________________________

Please call to make an appointment to take the test. (708)-443-9003

Apprenticeship

All Apprentice Glaziers must be able to lift 70lbs consistently.

And MUST NOT BE AFRAID OF HEIGHTS.

If you click on their PDF benefits which I can't seem to copy for some reason

The hourly rate is $43.83/hr

Total hourly benefits are $80.23/hr + $5 dollars a day regardless where you work.

I figure most of all of the construction jobs are getting above normal wages working downtown and offer OT or even more on weekends.

I think that this one Union website alone speaks volumes for the shortage of skilled [ talent ] construction workers in general. Now imagine a HQ2.

Chicago would have to hire outside the region to get enough talent to build as much as needed as fast as needed.

More Oct 29

Traffic flow - not, no access to the 2nd level of Wacker here.

And this poor curb cut has sat here - unrealized - for decades.

If Chicago is selected for HQ2, it would be very safe to assume that we would be looking at a significant population influx. Unemployment being very low, both locally and nationally, there aren't enough workers as it is when it comes to many industries, especially construction. While that may change with a potential recession next year or 2020, Amazon selecting Chicago for HQ2 would mean that the good times would keep on rolling in the city despite the prevailing economic situation in the rest of the country. All that work means a ton of college grads moving in to work at Amazon and tons of tradesmen and other skilled (as well as unskilled) labor moving in to build Amazon's office buildings, housing for their employees, and commercial development that will follow those two.

Suffice it to say, it would be a very ideal situation.

Out of curiosity (directed at those in the industry): Is there a way that finished building heights can be verified in an absolute way (as opposed to statistically etc.)?

The answer is always lasers. I don't know how, but I know lasers must be involved

Right, we usually round up here.

The height is 1,191 because why not

Is the CCD Lake/Sea level?

There's a similar labor shortage here now, unemployment is under 4%. I don't know the exact wage for your trade, but youd probably make $80k+, maybe six figures if you are very experienced. Call the local Carpenters union hall and ask them, I'm sure they would share that info with a fellow tradesman.
