I bet you got a pretty good deal in Hong Kong. Heard electronics are dirt cheap there.

But it's not really an upgrade. It's the same semi-pro level 50D vs 60D. I wasn't interested in plunking down even more money to get a 7D or a full-frame 5D which would make me replace some lenses.

Only better features that I like are the swivel display and the ability to do video.

It wasn't too bad. But wasn't really that much cheap either. Their regular price was equal to a decent sale price here in Canada.

60D is a nice camera. I have the 30D and will probably wait and see if/when the 70D comes out later this year and then get that. Would rather spend less on a body and put the money towards the glass.

60D is nice. Almost bought one when I bought my 7D two years ago - only reason I didn't was I was won over by the more advanced features and more solid construction of the 7D.

That would be sweet, as long as it's not crippled.
It is crippled...no internal AF motor, which means it will only work with AF-S "G" lenses.

I know it would cost a lot more but we are also talking about you slapping this on a d800! Its going to be a whole new ballgame for you.
The two lenses are different beasts for different purposes. The 17-35 would be my 'walking around" lens, sort of like a 18-55 on a crop sensor, except it has the extra reach on the wide end rather than the long end.

Eventually I will get an ultrawide, whether the 14-24 or the 14mm prime I have not decided yet. I have heard the zoom is sharper than the prime, so I would like to try both and see if the lesser optical quality is a good trade off for a smaller and cheaper lens.

I heard that too, then I heard it would have the AF motor. I'm guessing it'll be like the D5100 or something, with no top LCD, maybe only one selector wheel, no DOF preview, and some limitations in the settings.

If it has the feature set of the D90, I'd buy it.

Why not get the 24-70 f2.8? Now that a walking lens and it would be the same as a 16mm on apsc.

If I went Nikon I would get this set up:

14-24 f2.8; 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8

so then you have 14-200mm with a constant f2.8 stop. Three lenses and you could do almost anything. Add a 85mm f1.4 and I would never need anything else except maybe a fisheye for fun.

Rumor here says yes to AF motor and no GPS

24-70 is very large, and very heavy. Plus, as mentioned, I prefer the extra range on the wide end. I have 35-70mm covered by my 50mm prime, and taking a few steps forward or backwards. I already have a 70-300mm full frame lens, though it's not a 2.8.

I've put a lot of thought into it, and I definitely think the 17-35 is a better fit for me than the 24-70.

The 17-35mm just seems so limited to me for a walk around lens. But then again you dont take lots of pictures of people like I do either. Cant wait to see what you do with the d800. All the pics I have seen people post with them are pretty amazing. The ISO capabilities are really sick. Overall just a monster of a camera.

Yeah, it looks like a very nice camera but I'm probably going to get the 70D or even the 7DmkII later this year.

Im thinking they are still working on it or they would have put it on the nicer units. This is not a pro grade camera so the features probably arent up to pro grade standards yet. But that's how they will get you on the mark iv upgrade.

I just picked up 80-200mm 2.8 today for my D3. It's a beast of a lens, and has probably added another 5lbs to my camera bag.

I'm so happy to finally have a top quality telephoto zoom lens. It'll be great for photographing Shanghai 'wildlife'.

^ You can use it as a weapon if need be.

Finally got the D800 Thursday afternoon. Still getting to know it, but I am liking it so far. Walked around tonight taking hand-held shots with a 50mm, very impressive. The resolution is almost comedic.

^Sweet. I can't wait to see what you produce with it. I'm planning on getting the D800E in a couple of months.
