The different colored glass at the top doesn't ruin this building for me, but it does make me like it a lot less. It's a very jarring transition. No graduation whatsoever- had that been done, I think it would have looked quite nice.

Is it different or is it a protective coating? NYguy's photos of the other side make it appear as if it might be a coating.

I'm pretty sure some of that glass at the top has the same protective coating you see at the base. It'll come off eventually.

the triangle in the beacon looks skinnier and longer than in the rendering.

I don't think their is any protective coating on the top glass. If you look closely at the render, you can see the glass at the top is darker. Maybe this is to obscure what is behind it? You can see the concrete behind the lighter glass at the lower levels.

I'm a bit conflicted by the "beard" on the park side, as well as the "clotting" of the lines from the side, BUT , at dusk/ night, the backlighting may flip the balance back to the "flow" , ????

Then it won't be long till One57's Goth sister rises smack-dab in the middle of that next-to-last photo.

This will be breathtaking from that UES angle once the scaffolding is taken down.

And poor Citispire. Looking so dated and pathetic next to this modern beauty.

Yup. That's what I'm waiting for. I was up on Top of the Rock last night, just thinking about all that will rise on the skyline. One57 will still be prominent in that view,
but one of it's other siblings (109 w. 57th) will be slightly blocked by the Tower Verre, but still visible. That Central Park view will be dramatically cut.
BTW, if you look to the far right of that second photo, you'll see something else creeping into view.

Meanwhile, One57 makes a cameo...

The building looks somewhat "heavier" than IRL than it does in the rendering. Perhaps that perception is due to the elevator scaffolding adding bulk to the structure. But I don't think removing the scaffolding will change the perception of the penthouse louver design looking way too large in proportion to the rest of the building. In addition, the overall penthouse proportions seem somewhat stockier and squatter than they do in the renderings. It makes the building look rather top-heavy IMO.

The glazing doesn't look too bad on sunnier days, so the building has that going for it.
