Yeah Austin's is taller, but it's not a competition. That doesn't really matter. What matters is that it's getting built and the streetscape that is coming with it. This is big for us here, and I for one am excited.

400k square feet would be roughly 300-450 feet tall if you go by average heights for that amount of space. Granted, a really small floor plate would make it taller but you don't need that much to get that high usually. I'm surprised people thought it would be much taller. Either way, that's a slick looking building.

New Frost Tower building clears first regulatory hurdle

The Frost Tower, a proposed state-of-the-art skyscraper that is seen as a turning point for the effort to redevelop downtown, passed its first hurdle in the city’s design approval process Wednesday.

The San Antonio Historic and Design Review Commission unanimously approved the 23-story tower, designed by renowned international architecture firm Pelli Clarke Pelli, on a vote of 8-0. Local developer Weston Urban, which is building the tower with Dallas firm KDC, will return for final approval in the fall.

Downtown property sales cement Frost Tower deal for Weston Urban

It's not easy getting construction on a new high-rise office started, but Weston Urban is a step closer now that it has closed on three downtown San Antonio properties.

Those three will serve as stepping stones to the future Frost Bank Tower. At the end of 2016, the local developer became the official owner of the sites at 100 W Houston St., 110 W Houston St. and 109 Main St., all of which were properties previously owned by Frost Bank (NYSE: CFR) and stretch over about 4.65 acres around the Houston and North Flores Streets intersection.

The sales are part of an intricate public-private partnership agreement made in 2015 among Weston Urban, Frost Bank and the City of San Antonio in which Weston Urban will develop the new 23-story office tower as a replacement for Frost's motor bank site at 110 W Houston St.

Construction ramps up for Frost Bank tower

The 23-story Frost Bank Tower project has officially joined the hotbed of construction activity in downtown.

Construction crews began securing the project perimeter, an entire city block, Sunday night with steel, chain-link fences and large yellow barriers along the sidewalks, preparing for the two-year construction process.
