There has been a lot of negativity towards them but they have undoubtedly made a positive contribution towards Winnipeg's downtown - Stables on Adelaide Apartments, Element Condos, Bag Factory Apartments.

......no I don't work for Sandhu. I just appreciate private development downtown and they are making a go of it.
No kidding. The scope of dCondo was a lot bigger than prior projects it seemed, so he may have been a bit too zealous, but I never understood the negativity towards the guy...I doubt his critics have even attempted to build a 24 storey tower for instance.

And it looks like it will get finished now, so congrats to them. Hopefully as you said this experience doesn't put them off future developments of this magnitude, and rather they now know what to expect with future builds.

The negativity stemmed from their smaller projects which had a lot of problems and their ignorance and arrogance towards people left a lasting impression.

Good to see them helping develop downtown. Hopefully they continue to learn that Winnipeg is still a small city and how you conduct yourself is still important.

There are blocks of barren land around Chinatown which need developing. Step right up Sandhu.

^Pretty sure they are already doing something in that area. The bag factory. Remember with those stupid, yes stupid, windows they awkwardly framed into the larger original openings. Then painted the framed in part green..

Yes, and I truly appreciate it. Many thanks to them. It was a good start, now we need to see more. That would be great.

It's actually a private office building. Details here: http://wbi.lib.umanitoba.ca/Winnipeg...ing.jsp?id=528

Office building was the former home of IKOY architects. They did the RCMP building on Academy just before the Route 90 overpass and used the same design for an RCMP building in Regina. And lots of other stuff - I think they started that whole concrete "handle" on top of apartment building thing. If you see that, it's likely an IKOY design.

Now that you mention it, there is a family resemblance with the RCMP buildings that you pointed out. Can't find a decent pic of the Winnipeg one but here's one from Regina... kind of a Pompidou Centre-chic style.

Those handled apartment buildings were cool... I still like them. A little different than the typical 70s slabs.

Less snow to clean off the car in the winter.

Funny I immediately thought of the Wallace building when I saw the other one. I remember it always being way to hot in there for classes.

Now that it's a covered parking spot the monthly rent has gone up.

Walked by the other day and noticed that things seem to be rising. Never got a chance to upload the photos. Exciting to finally see this one rise!

Should start to see the main tower start poking up above the podium soon. Walked by last night and couldn't help but notice that that's one hell of a long site. Looks like the building will almost be in the water! Anyway it's moving forward albeit slowly.
