The entire west side topography resembles that of Pittsburgh and San Diego... with the vegetation it looks more southern California than northern woods. SXSW gets its name due to the geographical split running through austin called the Balcones fault line. To the east are coastal flat lands that extend to Houston and beyond. To the west are rocks, hills, cactus, etc that extend to New Mx and beyond. Austin is on the border of 2 climate zones (sub tropical and semi arid so the vegetation will express both sides of that climate).
