New pavilion of the Museum of Fine Arts, inaugurated last friday. Such a simple and elegant building. Great addition to the city.

Rabbit Snare Gorge cabin sits on a bluff in remote Nova Scotia

30 June 2016

Plates of weathering steel frame the tall doorway to this timber-clad home, designed by architects Design Base 8 and Omar Gandhi for a remote site on Canada's Cape Breton (+ slideshow).

The cabin was built for an arborist and outdoor pursuits enthusiast among the rugged landscape of Rabbit Snare Gorge, from which it takes its name.

It is located on a 46-acre (6.5-hectare) parcel of land on the island of Cape Breton, at the eastern end of Nova Scotia.

Bright white home by MU Architecture blends with Quebec's snowy landscape

3 June 2016

Canadian studio MU Architecture has completed a white-painted holiday home in rural Quebec that is composed of two stacked volumes that cling to the steep terrain (+ slideshow).

Called the Nook Residence, the weekend retreat is situated in the Eastern Townships region of Quebec, in a quiet area near Lake Memphremagog.

Encompassing 3,000 square feet (278 square metres), the two-storey house is clad in white-painted pine, which merges the building with the snowy landscape in winter.

^ sort of like Kenaidan Contracting, a large construction company in Toronto. They have a rather fancy headquarters in Mississauga.
