Great news though!
Glad to assist! I was under the impression most of the Mobile posters had either moved over to City-Data or moved on from posting.

Two downtown news stories from earlier this week:

Bring Back Broad; Mobile wins TIGER grant - This is big news for the Broad, Beauregard, and MLK corridors.

New Food Truck Corral on Joachim - Hook ups for three trucks and permanent seating

Couple of news items from today:

- Chattanooga MoonPie Official Store opening in RSA Trustmark Building in December
- "Southern National" - a new restaurant by James Beard-nominated Chef Duane Nutter (from One Flew South at ATL airport) is opening at 360 Dauphin St., possibly in December
- South Alabama announced they plan on building an on campus stadium (in the 25k seat range)

ALDOT Project Letting site says that removal of the Eastbound on-ramp from Water Street to I-10 will be let on Sept 30.

I wish they would be letting the complete removal of the Water St interchange with the remodel of the Canal St interchange like they were supposed to in 2014/15, but I guess this is a start.

I know this is supposed to provide a temporary fix to the congestion at the tunnel but I think it will only push the jam down to the Texas Street interchange. A lot of people will be aggravated with the convoluted way they will have to get on I-10 eastbound.

It will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Looking at Google Maps' directions for people traveling THROUGH Mobile to get to the coast, it currently takes them down Water St to that eastbound ramp. Maybe with the increased distance, and time, to get onto I-10 eastbound on the Mobile side of the tunnel via Texas St, Google (and other direction finders) will instead route traffic onto the Cochrane Bridge.

renovation of the old merchant/Regions bank building?

I was listening to the "Real Deal" podcast that the Lagniappe occasionally does, and in their rumors section it was mentioned there is some interest in transforming the former Merchant Bank building downtown into apartments or condos. It was last used as the downtown Regions office, but I'm not sure who is using it now. Really neat old building that could make an interesting location for condos - any word on that?

I have heard that rumor too. Right now, it's probably only 60% occupied... the building owners weren't putting any money into it and many previous occupants jumped ship.

Hey, I'm sure it is mentioned somewhere in this thread, but what is being built at the corner of Government and Royal between the Hampton Inn and Fort Conde? Thanks!

EDIT: 15 minutes of Googling found it: http://www.al.com/news/mobile/index....g_mobiles.html

There's not much there now, but Phase II will be a nice attraction.

The city's Board of Adjustment approved three Mobile breweries today:

Haint Blue Brewing in Church Street East
Serda Brewing downtown on Government
BJ's Brewhouse on Airport Blvd
