People will be very excited when the facade starts rising (except those with NY envy).

No, they are just digging around. Maybe something pops up on the surface ...

If you search for Vinoly on LinkedIn, one of his architects describes this project as over1400 feet tall.

I hate this building. My little 4 year old brother could have come up with this boring, bland "design." I don't see how anyone could be excited to have this embarrassment of a tower being built anywhere.

I'll agree the design isn't fantastic, but same with many buildings in NY. It will be nice however, to have a building with the same roof height as Sears next to central park. Plus it's not really ugly IMO, it just isn't beautiful.

The best thing about this project, is that if it does in fact break the roof height of 1WTC, it could lead to even taller buildings. My biggest fear since 9/11 is having 1WTC be the tallest in the city forever, and this day and age, NYC and America easily have the capability to build higher.

The same could be said of 99% of the buildings in SF. Do you hate them all?

I still don't understand how people can honestly claim to love Aon and hate this. They're both boxes, but this is much taller, thinner, has a sleek facade, and has the floating tower element. I guess the key word is "honestly."

I'm going to reserve judgement until we see the final facade design. But if its really going to be 1420ft, I won't complain. It will be the first building in NYC to break the 1400 ft roof barrier. ...something that should have happened 80 years ago with MetLife.

i miss drake, but height will make for loss and simple design.

But the Aon is like a bunch of cubes Patriotizzy's 4 yr old brother stacked up in kindergarten. This building is like a bunch of cubes Patriotizzy's 4 yr old brother stacked up in kindergarten and then proceeded to puke on them.

99% of those SF skyscrapers were built a while back, when boxy buildings were the thing. It's not like they're proposing something like 432 Park in SF at the moment...

Honestly, I don't love any boxy buildings. Some may look nice and are good fillers, but when they're this tall, you need to come up with something a lot more inspiring and iconic.

If you claim that boxes are atrocious and ruin a skyline, then it's irrelevant when they were built. The damage is there whether it was inflicted in 1970 or 2012. A skyline, such as SF or Canary Wharf, which is 99% boxes, is hideous by your rationale. The same holds true for the skyline of a large city in the middle of the US which, as per the moderators, no one is allowed to criticize. Its skyline is 90% boxes, and this nameless city is currently building several 600 foot boxes in very prominent locations. Will this irreparably ruin its skyline?

I respectfully disagree with your position.

It's agreed that some will like it, some will hate it, some will have no opinion either way. But what can't be denied is that it would be impressive to get this tower built at this time and on one of New York's long stalled sites. We'll see.

I feel like I'm looking at a replay of the early stages of One57 construction.

This will be an amazing tower. CIM has a lot of money. This will start rising in 2012.

Both the Aon and this tower are welcome additions to their respective cities skylines. If you guys don't want it, give them to me in Toronto, they would look great in our skyline.

agreed, how people can complain about a 1420 foot flat topped tower in NYC is beyond me, the city has plenty of great design already, so the height will do the skyline wonders.

Good news.
And it will be precisely 432m -- hence the name of this tower, which will rise at 440 Park, not 432, which is located one block south.

p.s.: people will be very pleased when they see the very sleek, shiny facade.
