Phone, keys, wallet

Do you keep some or all of them on your person at all times during waking hours?

For me, the location of these items defines the boundary between away from home and home. The very first act in sloughing off the outside world is the ritualistic emptying of my pockets into a little bin on my desk, which is when the relaxation can begin (or work, in my case--home office).

But these days so many people seem glued to their phones all the time. How representative would SSP be in a poll?

Wallet in my back pocket, keys in my front. No phone other than my landline (because I too see people glued to their phones all the time and it makes me want to puke).

What's with the back pocket thing? How do you sit down comfortably on a less than cushiony surface?

It also looks terrible. Though if like SHH you only have a few slim cards, it's not so bad.

Wallet goes into my back pocket, but there's a balancing issue (in terms of sitting down/comfort, and visually), which is why I also carry a stack of folded papers on my other back pocket. The origin of that stack of papers was academic: I would carry my class schedule, some notes, periodic table and all sorts of other useful papers for college. I do consider switching to a second empty wallet to thwart would be pick-pockets, but old habits die hard.

The only time it’s an issue for me is if I’m driving for over an hour, then I take it out. Also, when I’m in countries where it’s a potential security risk (then I slim it down and use a front pocket).

keys and infrequently used cards are kept in a kitchen drawer. Wallet can be anywhere...

Don't own a cell phone.

Re above, you can keep your wallet very thin. I used to carry inside my suit jacket and wanted it thin. Only carry one credit card, Starbucks card and drivers license. Photocopies of my UPC codes for air miles, Tims, Superstore are all taped inside my wallet and work just fine.

My smartphone is locked but I suppose a good hacker might be able to get in there. A number of my bank accounts have autocomplete passwords for them when you open a browser window, so I guess there is a danger there.

My bank app is just hooked up to the fingerprint scanner on the phone now. I don't know if I actually can remember the password anymore...

Wallet's always back pocket for me. I'm not rocking a velcro wallet with 30 gift cards.



I either have a very slim leather wallet that you can't even feel in dress pants, or I have two of these now that are perfect for a suit jacket inner pocket.

Keys and wallet are usually on my desk at home and work. Phone is usually on my person when I'm awake.

Keys in a bowl near the entrance. Cell phone, wallet (and stack of folded papers to balance my wallet) in a Coca-Cola bottle caddy, on a side table, next to my spot on the couch. That caddy also contains my TV clickers and wrist watch. The side table holds my old-timey land line phone (which I use 95% of the time from home) and answering machine.

I grab my wallet keys and cell phone as soon as I leave the house and drop them back in their spot as soon as I return. Separation of church and state (at least, pre-pandemic).

At home and at work, all 3 come out of my pocket.

At work they go on my desk (where I'm at all the time anyways and its a secure building).

At home, they go on a flat surface nearby in case I'm leaving.

For the phone I usually plug it in almost all the time, so it's beside me at the computer if I need it. Sometimes I'll take it to the couch to play games while watching TV.

And when I go to bed, the phone stays out in the living room. The only electronics in my bedroom are my stereo (which is also my alarm clock) and the Timex Ironman watch I wear 24/7.

My cell phone is near exclusively used as a phone and texting device. I do not have a data plan. I only have to charge it once or twice a week.

I do keep the wi-fi on for in the house.

Phone stays in the living room at night. Emergency? Call the our land line.

My partner though, she's addicted to her phone. On her 24/7. Plays games anytime we're sitting on the couch. Surfs the net. Young people stuff. Her keys? Always forgets them at home.

I don’t use a wallet - I’ve only four credit card-sized things to carry and they’re always in my back pocket (99% of the time) or front (when in shorts or joggers).

Personal and work mobiles are never far. I carry both in my hand when stepping away from
my desk during work days. At home they’ll be close to wherever I am - on kitchen table while I cook, on desk while I’m gaming, etc.

Keys I don’t keep in my pocket unless I take off just the ones I need to get into my house (for example, when jogging). Otherwise, especially with the car key attached, they’re just laid somewhere.

I have a man purse.

When I am at home it has its own spot on a shelf in the kitchen next to the microwave.

I generally take my phone out of the man purse when I am at home, but I don't keep it right next to me. I generally keep it plugged in. Right now it is on a table at the other end of the room.

I am not usually on my phone when I am watching TV and it's something I actually want to watch. If I am forced to watch something with my wife and kids I may take my phone and scan SSP while pretending to pay attention.

My cards, cash and keys pretty much stay in my man purse all the time. My car has keyless push start and I enter and exit the house through the garage so the inside door is always unlocked.
