Nice. Very Nice. Some great upgrades coming to LAX, its about time, its been way too long. Now can we get some exterior upgrades going too ? I know all the terminals were added as the airport grew and expanded but I think aesthetically the terminals exterior designs are all over the place. Wouldn't mind if I drove into the airport and was looking at all the terminals cohesively looking like the new Bradley terminal.

Ethiopian Airlines to start Los Angeles service in 2015

Ethiopian Airlines to start Los Angeles service in 2015

June 29, 2014

"Ethiopian Airlines, the largest carrier in Africa, said it is preparing to launch a new service to Los Angeles starting in 2015. The flight will be served via Dublin, Ireland according to a report by eTN. Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde Gebremariam was quoted as saying, Since it is a long flight we need a stopover. And we are planning to make a stopover in Dublin. We have secured a traffic right from the Ireland Civil Aviation Authority,” Tewolde said. If everything goes according to schedule, Ethiopian will launch the flight to Los Angeles next year.

Ethiopian Airlines currently flies to more than 80 destinations in five continents, and Los Angeles will be Ethiopian's second destination to the United States, as it currently serves Washington Dulles.

Recently, it added Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Vienna to its route network. It will also launch new flights to Ho Chi Minh City, Manila and Tokyo in the near future, the report said..."

Actually, it will stop in DUB, but they don't have nonstop ADD-LAX. The range is more than 10,000 miles. This will be fifth freedom local traffic rights.

LAX $900M 11 Gate Midfield concourse Approved

Hi All,

LAX $900M 11 Gate midfield concourse has been approved today.

Quote:
The modernization of Los Angeles International Airport continued Monday with the approval of a new $900 million terminal that will add gates for wide-body aircraft and help eliminate a major inconvenience for travelers.

Airport commissioners unanimously approved construction of the northern half of a midfield concourse west of the Bradley International Terminal, which is undergoing its own expansion and renovation.

Great news and much needed. Only change is that the bridge is no longer going to be built

Loving that LAX is getting the midfield terminal. Great news. I just hate that they decided to take away the bridge. Their excuse for doing so seems kind of lame....LA, a city known for its weather, even though lately its been kind of crazy, but to push international travelers underground as soon as they step foot in the city is no bueno.

Perhaps but safety is paramount and there are unique engineering requirements to accommodate widebody Group VI aircraft.

The worst terminal (Terminal 2) is getting a badly needed facelift:

So why is Westfield's name on this? Does the airport essentially lease the commercial and common areas of the terminal to them and then lease the gates to the airlines?

Correct-- airport authorties enter into leases directly with airlines for gates, baggage areas, ticket counter space, etc... I would think the LA World Airports prefers to deal with one concessionaire that has global experience, Westfields, than to have leases and contracts with multiple retail tenants.

Test to decrease LAX evening departure delays could reduce noise over the Palos Verde

Test to decrease LAX evening departure delays could reduce noise over the Palos Verdes Peninsula

By Nick Green
Torrance Daily Breeze
9/11/14

An extended test of a loop departure route from LAX will see fewer aircraft flying around the Palos Verdes Peninsula at night. The test will see more aircraft flying later at night on the loop, but at a higher altitude. (Image courtesy of the Torrance Daily Breeze).

"A six-month test of an evening aircraft departure route intended to reduce take-off delays at Los Angeles International Airport could also lessen the roar of airplanes over the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

The test, which began Sept. 1, permits aircraft to depart LAX westbound, but then loop back to head toward the airport to eastern destinations.

The so-called “loop departure procedure” had been used between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. and requires aircraft to re-cross the shoreline at a minimum altitude of 10,000 feet..."
