Urban Outfitters announces mixed-used development in Devon

I have no doubt that this will be a stunner!

I'm also fascinated by their business strategy on this one. It's looking more and more like they're morphing into a meta-lifestyle brand if their buying property and creating mixed-used centers out of them - it'll be like you're living within an Anthropologie. Not complaining (there window displays are pretty incredible).

Wait. Rodin Square is named after the developer - not the Rodin Museum a block away? That is crazy.

Most folks will assume that it's named after the museum (hopefully ).

I wonder if there is a pronunciation difference, and if there is... Will it be observed?

Ugh. How does Philadelphia Magazine even stay in business, writing demeaning, anti-city garbage like this? (Read the comments section for some of my argument - although in hindsight, I should have also addressed Philly's transit system which, though not to London's standard, is probably more comparable to London than Leeds.)

Whoever wrote that down right loathes philadelphia and is scared to death it might get better relations with London. Also, who brought up New York? Is that guy working for New York? Afriad Philly will take in on some of "New York's Game"?

I already knew that there were those actively attacking philadelphia to keep new york propped up, first time I've seen it so blatent. I guess philly mag's whole purpose is to keep philadelphian's mentally in their place in a "new york environment".

So true, Mike - it's frustrating. I'm used to the New York/Washington-based media doing it, but it's disgusting to see Philly's own doing it too.

I've updated my comment on that site with GaWC comparisons. While they may not be the ultimate authority in city ratings, they're certainly more relevant than that author's "sources".

While the article is full of hyperbole, is the guy really that off? Why they hell is Nutter going to London to promote Philly. London is in a whole other league. Go to some smaller cities and draw better parallels.

And cheese steaks really aren't that great. Not that fish and chips are remarkable either.

Philly is a nice city and improving, but trying to compare it to NYC, London or other global hubs doesn't do anything to benefit the place.

Yes, the guy IS that far off. You don't aspire downwards. And like I said in my article comment, Philly ranks with London among the gamma world cities. (You can argue the GaWC rankings, but they're more valid than the personal perception/opinion you're posing.)

And if you think the Philly food scene is all about the cheesesteak, you're missing the forest for the sapling you're holding in front of your eyes.
