The Granary is looking great (especially in person). I'm hoping this motivates someone to do something about the huge PPA surface lot to the south of this. I know the library had plans to expand into the southern half of this lot at one point, but I think those are dead. Any idea how likely it would be for the PPA to sell this off to a willing developer?

I could be mistaken, but I don't think the library expansion has ever been officially declared dead, it's just been mothballed, though I would not be surprised if it never saw the light of day again.

In any event, something will eventually happen with that lot. There's way too much action on that stretch of Callowhill for PPA to sit on it.

^^^ Thanks again to Lincolndrive for the constant photo updates. Dang, they got those Lombard Estates up fast! I totally forgot about the Wistar Institute's expansion. The renders were beautiful for that one. I'm excited to see it coming along!

Are any of these new construction (at all price points, but seems many in choice locations are super expensive...$1MM+) homes built with ease of access in mind? I mean, American population is growing old, and many empty nesters are wanting to move back into town. Seems that Philly's housing stock, both old and new, is *very* anti-old/anti-disability people... if you have weak knees and can't climb stairs, forget about it, the city doesn't want you.

Have any of you folks with deep knowledge of Philly housing stock seen or known many rowhomes with a one-person elevator, or a chair lift? Can an elevator be retrofitted into a typical South Philly rowhome?

Just wondering... as I look to buy my first house in Philly.

A lot of new development in Francisville on Poplar is aimed at senior living, as far as I recall.

I see numerous places with a chair lift around the city fit onto the front stoop. I would contact a Realtor if I were you. They could probably help you out more than we can.

3601 Market Street is a go

3601 Market Street, the highrise apartment tower in the University City Science Center at 36th & Market Streets, received approval from the Zoning Board, yesterday, and the Planning Commission, last week.

Thanks! I'm working with an agent now.

I'm really interested in buying a rowhouse with a small (one-person?) hydraulic elevator already installed, or buy a property with the ability to retrofit it with an elevator, and was wondering about the feasibility of doing something like that.

I was hoping to get some informed opinion of whether something like that could be done, and how much would it cost.

A chair lift would be a second, far less favored, option.

Not sure on the elevator, but I see the chairlifts in some less well off neighborhoods, so I assume that is not very expensive to do.

YES! Great news, that building IS an eyesore. Love seeing these old factories turned into lofts. Thanks for the updates everyone!
