Thanks, I had not seen that footage before. And that it was in color surprised me!

It does seem rather odd there's no other footage of the opening of Union Station, in newsreels or anywhere else. It drew enough people that you'd think it would've drawn some more attention that way. Strange. Wonder why?

Good eye spotting the Hillman upstairs. I think the 1958 show was also at the Shrine Exhibition Hall. Here's a photo of the empty hall. Even the circular pattern of the floorboards match.

I wasn't familiar with Lloyd automobiles but found out the it's the little wagon with the white top, facing the Bentley convertible. It has suicide doors which I believe the kids would describe as "gangsta"

I looked through all the past posts that mention "Sanders" and none of them concerned this Oldsmobile dealership.

"Sanders Oldsmobile, La Brea & Wilshire, Los Angeles, California."

For some reason, the slide is usually cropped like this online, eliminating the right side of the photograph and the view of the Carnation Building in the distance)

Since we know the Carnation Building is located on Wilshire Boulevard, the auto dealership must have been a bit south of Wilshire.

This was a great building. It was built as Murphy Oldsmobile in 1945; its architect was Max Maltzman .

Here are three Google Street views from 2007, 2010 and 2014...

...which should tell you the fate of our friend Murphy Oldsmobile.

Now, look in the background of Margolies's 1976 image or the 2007 Google Street view, see that also-demolished building with the vertical fins? That's Irving Shapiro's 1965 Columbia Savings.

I wasn't really expecting Sanders Oldsmobile to be standing..but I was shocked that Irving Shapiro's mid-century Columbia Savings is gone as well.
That's the first time I recall seeing the interior. It was quite impressive!

..but today it's hiding behind a horrible 1948 addition that was tacked on the front.

What first caught my eye is the red vehicle that appears to be parked on the sidewalk. (in reality; it's, no doubt, in a parking space)*
Anyhoo, it looks like the back of, what we called, the 'Resusitator' in my home town's fire department. (think Mayberry)..... *searches frantically for image* .....*finds nothing*

*Hmmmm, so where is it parked? At first I thought it might be parked at Ed Pyle's old gas station on the northwest corner of Vine & Selma....
but now I think it might be somewhere closer, like next to the old Huntington Hartford Theatre [1615 N. Vine]. (near that greasy spoon that used to be there)

Nevermind: Now that I think about it, the greasy spoon was located in a building that was part of Ed Pyle's old gas station. .....we've covered this, like, three times and I still can't get it right.

You know what. I don't care where the damn thing is parked....

. . .my 'Mayberry' is a ghost town now.....less Aunt Bea...more meth lab.

Grace Martin lived at 968 Court Circle, Los Angeles in 1910. It appears that the street is no longer there, but the cross street was Temple. Court Circle was lost to the 110 freeway. She was 15 years old in 1910, having been born in February of 1895. She was the daughter of Franklin Martin, a widowed carriage painter. Grace appears to have been born in California but the family was from Illinois. At the time she had an older brother George, who was 16. The family appears in the 1900 Census, and at that time Franklin's parents were also living with them. The next time they are found are in the 1910 Census on Court Circle. The family appears again in the 1920 census, still at the same address, a home Franklin owned. The information for the family is the same except that Franklin is now painting automobiles instead of carriages.

I think the last two letters "nc." between the on the upper left indicate some business ("inc.") whose name ends in "EL" and who have headquarters in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and New Orleans. And who, if they were honest about it, owned a heck of a lot of horse drawn wagons :-)
