Here are two more Detroit buildings!

The first one is a commissioned work by Arthur Gugick. The Ferchill Group, a Cleveland based company, pumped $180 million to restore the ornate Book Cadillac hotel which had been abandoned since 1986. The Book Cadillac was the tallest hotel in the world when it opened in 1924 with 1136 guest rooms. The Ferchill Group presumably wanted to mark the reopening of this classic hotel by commissioning a LEGO replica.

Arthur Gugick posted this picture on mocpages.com

The other is a building I made that will be displayed next to my Penobscot Buildings. It is a replica of the Peoples State Bank/Savoyard Center, designed in 1900 by Stanford White of McKim, Mead, and White - a prominent east-coast architectural firm during the gilded age.

I took this picture. http://www.flickr.com/photos/decojim/2956111697/

Amazing stuff here everyone. I recently lugged a bunch of my old Lego bricks back to my apartment from my parent's house; I should take a crack at building something like you all have done.

DecoJim: those two creations are amazing! Absolutely incredible work.

Hey all, I just recently downloaded LEGO Digital Designer and have already made a few designs, but I wanted to know if anyone out there knows of a source to buy bricks at (I guess this question is similar to the one posted above sort of).

I recently made a model of the Chase building in Chicago that would be made infinitely better if I were able to get my hands on a 1x2x3 roof tile piece in yellowy-tan (technically called "brick yellow", I believe). Anyway, it's not available to use in a design in the program (only red and black are available), and it is not available for purchase on the LEGO parts store on LEGO.com. I came across some websites a year or so back that had used parts for sale and now I can't find any of those websites for the life of me despite poring over Google for hours. Since seeing some of the designs on this thread I figured you were all heavy hitters when it comes to LEGO stuff and might know where to get some parts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

By the way, here is a screenshot of the model that needs the parts (if any of you are familiar with the Chase building in Chicago you will know why. Also, the model is not to scale and not finished completely so no criticism please!):

Jibba: Your Chase building is designed in what is often called microscale because is is much smaller than minfig-scale (about 1/50 scale to match the Lego mini-figures/people). It looks good. Do you plan to eventually build several skyscrapers in a standard scale? Have you seen JSR's stuff on the previous pages?

I need to correct a misconception that a few of you have:

The first tall building - the Book Cadillac - in post 322 is not mine. Arthur Gugick built that LEGO model (which I did give him credit for in that post). I took the liberty of posting a picture of his work since as far as I know he is not a SSP member.
I did build the 2nd building in that post. So thanks for at least 1/2 a compliment!
