Hey, someone who's familiar with Maryville! I lived there for a short while about 10 years ago. It's a really great town - very pretty. And you can't beat the setting!

Anyway, regarding Rapid City....I think it looks like a humble, very nice city. I've often thought about taking a road trip and heading in that direction. Could be an interesting place to explore! Nice shots. Thanks for sharing them, because I really was wondering what the city looked like, other than the few shots you see doing a web search.

Yes, I'm familiar with where Wall Drug is. I was kidding around...

But seriously, no phototour of Rapid City and the Black Hills is complete without Wall Drug, Deadwood, perhaps Sturgis, Lead, and of course the obligatory Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse photos! Hahaha

That's the booming metropolis of Cascade Springs about 70 miles south of Rapid. Originally they wanted to lure a railroad by building a resort town by the natural springs but when the railroad decided a different route the town was no more. I think that building was the bank but now it stands alone as some lucky persons beautiful home.

I was in Rapid City/Custer State Park for a week in 2001. Very friendly people live there. The hills were a killer on my car's transmission and brakes though.

Actually RC's largest industry is tourism. I lived there for a short while and loved it. A lot of social issues in the area. Its a facinating place even when you look beyond Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, Sturgis Rally. The Wounded Knee Massacre site is just a couple of hours away. The Badlands are an amazing geological event. The people are terrific, the scenery is unique but it is so isolated. Maybe that's what makes it great...

Maui, Smaui.
Move over, Niagara Falls.
The New Honeymoon destination is the Hotel Alex Johnson!

Actually he did a poor job showing the A. Johnson Hotel (from the back). Its the best in Rapid city. It feels straight out of 'the shining'. From the higher floors on the west side you get amazing views of the black hills which are the tallest Mountains east of the rockies. Your comment/joke was pretty lame... better luck next time.

I've been meaning to get some photos of the AJ but I've been back in Las Vegas and L.A. so I haven't had the time.

That is one of the most spectacular pieces of old time architecture ever. It'll live forever.
