225 W57 is taller than the Willis Tower to roof.

And why would developers have this mindset? They aren't SSP skyscraper geeks. They want to make money. They'll build what makes the most financial sense. They aren't wasting time with nonsense arguments about "height to roof" vs "height to occupied floor" vs "height to spire" or whatever. These conversations aren't even part of the equation.

Well they should be! I mean they want to erect their structures into the sky this tall right? So why not have a fun mindset about it and declare NY the holder of the tallest rooftop building in North America once again? I don't think NY has had a tallest rooftop building since before I was born. And that would have been the twin towers till the Sears went up a year later.

I know but thats kinda boring. Plus there is financial incentive in erecting the tallest observation deck in North America. Wouldn't ya say? How much of The Sears towers revenue is due to its observation deck?

Yes they are, they secretly want to erect the tallest structures. Even if they are not consciously aware of it.

I like my tower to have substantial girth...something to convey power and dominance.

The building isn't built yet. It's being built. The tower opens with Nordstrom at the base and condos on top in 2018.

I don't understand your question, as you asked which buildings will be taller to roof. "Will be" implies buildings in development, no?

No. Developers don't care about "tallest building". It plays almost no role in their development plans.

Very, very few people care about things like this, and they're almost all here on SSP.

The last core jump was to actual floor 81 or the apparent 86th window level. This is the 86th jump of 15' 6'' or 1333'

The Sears Tower observation deck is higher than the ESB deck, yet makes nowhere near the same amount of money.

Developers aren't concerned with tallest nonsense, unless its in the same city and there is competition. They build their products for one reason only, and that is to make money.
If it ends up being higher than other towers, so be it.

i purposely sit on the left side of the train so I can catch a glimpse of this tower coming down through the Bronx and across the river into Manhattan . . . it's absolutely dominant.

NYCguy:

Don't you think part of the reason the empire state makes more than the sears tower is that it is located in NYC rather than chicago? I mean don't get me wrong, chicago is a great city too, but New York is like everyones first destination when it comes to tourism.

How much did the original twin towers pull in annually compared to the empire state with its roof top observation deck?

I don't care where it's located. It was a response to your assertion that someone should build a higher observation deck. The deck at 30 Rock does well, it's not simply a matter of being the highest. Buildings will be built, some taller than others. And if there's any competition at all, it's within the city. Enough about that.
