True, but what's the feeling in Milwaukee?
It's either a very nice Westin, a W, or maybe a Le Meridien (I keep forgetting Starwood bought LM).

You're right about star rating and hotel specific location though. I've stayed in some very, very nice Westin's, that maybe would warrant 4.5 stars, but those have been in large global capitals, not metro areas of ~ 2MM, but who knows, this may very well be a Westin....

It's harder for a Westin to reach 4.5 stars than it is for a W or Le Meridien, just based on the basic concepts for each brand.

Definitely not a St. Regis though. They're really only expanding in Asia right now, and they'd enter Chicago before Milwaukee.

RowHouse 31 features, you guessed it, 31 row houses. Unlike many other rowhouse-style apartments and condominiums built in the past 10 years, the buildings don’t face the street. Because of the depth of the lot, the rowhouses all face inward (perpendicular to the street). Two driveways are under construction on the north and south side of the lot, which will prevent any sight of a garage from the interior of the complex.

The gentrification of Bronzeville continues, I have no problems with it.

"The Milwaukee Plan Commission unanimously approved Monday a proposed Mandel Group Inc. apartment bordering the Milwaukee River.

The proposed complex on East North Avenue will be a combination apartment and indoor rock-climbing facility in partnership with Adventure Rock. The four-story building with 46 market-rate apartments would go up at East North Avenue and North Commerce Street, west of the Milwaukee River."

200 room Westin Hotel to be built in downtown Milwaukee.

There was discussion on this forum as to what brand Starwood would be building in downtown MKE. We now have the answer. The Westin was originally going to be part of the proposed Couture high rise, but will now be a new build hotel instead.

Also, the 833 East office building broke ground on Wednesday.

http://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee...east-with.html

And the last of the Northwestern Mutual East tower has now come down. The site will now be prepped for construction to start on the new 32 story tower.

http://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee...-piece-of.html

If the Couture is approved, there will be four high rises under construction at once in downtown MKE: the Westin, the NML tower, 833 East, and the Couture. Exciting times for MKE. I can't wait to see all completed and the new skyline. I've been reading this blog for years but have finally joined and this is my first post. =)

Thank you. I'm glad I joined. No, there have been no renderings of the hotel yet. From what I understand, the lot it'll be built on is pretty small so I would imagine it'll be a skinny, tall building. I'm curious to see renderings too.

Make sure you post it as soon as there is an image, I would love to see more about Milwaukee on here, it's a great town and I can't stand reading SkyscraperCity where all the Milwaukee people post.

i try to keep the following milwaukee threads updated here on SSP, but it's mostly just reposts from things over at SSC. and with no actual milwaukee forumers here at SSP, there's not much in the way of discussion, just periodic updates and then the threads fall down the line:

MILWAUKEE | The Couture | 507 FT | 44 FLOORS

MILWAUKEE | Northwestern Mutual Life Tower | 550 FT | 32 FLOORS | DEMO

it is kind of a bummer that SSP has virtually no interest in milwuakee projects. for whatever reason, SSC became the established place to go to for milwaukee urban development discussion.

Hey Milwaukeeans!

One of the projects in town here in Buffalo is disassembling its tower crane since its job is done.

According to the Buffalo News:
"The crane, which came here from Tennessee when construction began last year, is scheduled to be shipped off to Chicago for an inspection before beginning a new job in Milwaukee."

The movement of these tower cranes around the country and what they build in their lives is pretty fascinating (I think). There are only a few hundred of them in the United States. so just curious -- what project is starting up soon in Milwaukee that this crane is going to be building for you guys? The crane is 300 feet tall.

(The crane is the one at the back right. The mobile crane at left is taking it apart. It is one of two cranes that has been building the building at right, HarborCenter, which is a new hockey arena + hotel complex. The other crane isn't visible in this photo and will be sticking around for another year or so.)

HiLadsnine, that crane may be coming to Milwaukee to start construction on the Northwestern Mutual Tower. They just finished tearing down the building on the site where they will construct the new tower. Their new tower will be 32 stories.

All of Milwaukee's freeways and interchanges are coming to the end of their design lives (or outlived them already after 50+ years), so they are being completely rebuilt/widened one section at a time.

The Zoo Interchange is next on the list, so all that construction work you see are the preparations for that project. The early phases focus on all of the arterial streets surrounding the interchange.
