Awful, just plain awful. I can't believe this person is still allowed to build in NYC.

Kaufman should be banned from the city.

REID WILSON
AUGUST 18, 2015

Quote:
In February of 2014, YIMBY reported on filings for a 29-story, 249-key hotel at 6 Water Street, in the Financial District, and later that year, revealed an on-site rendering of the project, which is being designed by Gene Kaufman. Courtesy of a YIMBY reader, photos confirm the building is finally rising, and it’s now one floor above street level. Rhode Island-based Magna Hospitality Group is developing, after acquiring the site from prolific hotel builder Sam Chang last year for $44.3 million. Signage indicates an anticipated completion date of this coming winter, though that would seem unlikely.

More filler . .
I dont espouse tearing down a lot of the old stuff . .
but I sure as hell wouldn't mind tearing down most of Water Street.
Let's not kid ourselves. New York is very famous for having a lot of very bad buildings . . .
Most of the WS towers that ruined the downtown skyline from the Brooklyn Promenade . .
fit into this category.

6 Water Street Reaches Eighth Floor

VITALI OGORODNIKOV
OCTOBER 15, 2015

Quote:
The hotel at 6 Water Street in the Financial District, slated to stand 29 stories tall, has reached its eighth floor. The future 249 room establishment, designed by Gene Kaufman, is located near the southern tip of Manhattan, making it the southernmost construction project on the island. Only seven highrise buildings claim a latitude further south.

Luckily it's shielded by 1 NY Plaza so that it may not impact the waterfront skyline. Good thing this eye sore isn't going to rise very tall.

Kaufman-Designed 6 Water Street Now Complete In The Financial District

Quote:
Construction on the 29-story Gene Kaufman-designed 6 Water Street has wrapped, and the shiny new blue and white façade looks directly over the South Ferry terminal, Battery Park, and New York Harbor.

The 250-key hotel is now home to a Hilton Garden Inn, which includes a restaurant, bar, and 24-hour fitness center and business space available for guests.

The styling of the façade has Kaufman’s trademark look; metal panels with simple coloring. The 298-foot tall structure yields 125,680 square feet of space, averaging 502 square feet per room. Magna Hospitality Group is responsible for the development.
