I think it was a missed opportunity to not accommodate space for Bloomingdales in 1911 Walnut. Sure, the selection of retail along Walnut after
Barnes & Noble 18th Street leaves much to be desired, but that could easily change with a Bloomingdales anchoring 1911. Regardless, Bloomingdales is enough of a draw on its own. It's still a premium location and presents a rare opportunity to "build to suite" in a brand new building - older buildings have their challenges. To me, that location is a no-brainer.
Plus, I would imagine having a Bloomingdales as your ground floor tenant would add a lot of cachet and help distinguish the building from its competitors.
