I love it in the background is Frost Tower...looking surly. I imagine her saying "hey bitch I'm still the queen of the ATX!"
By the way is the Indi's crown gonna be that mundane?...give me a break it looks like a cheap way to cover up the ugly stuff on top of the roof!

One has to be careful... there are myriad ways to do the crown, ranging mostly from bad to fugly. The renderings show a simple crown that does no harm.

I agree. It's simple and keeps in line with the overall design of the building, a series of offset stacked boxes. Doesn't need to be anything more, IMO.
So here's a question. 56 Leonard in NYC stands at 821 feet tall yet is roughly around the same floor count as the Independent. There's also a new residential tower going up in Detroit that I think has the same floor count as the Independent yet it too will be in the 800 foot range. Is it simply floor to ceiling height that is the reason for the difference? Plus the Independent has a parking podium. Not sure if 56 Leonard has or the new one in Detroit will have a parking podium.

These first two were from the Travis County Expo Center in East Austin. My fingers went numb trying to get this shot. It was the day after a strong cold front had come through. The wind chill was in upper 20s when I took this.

This is from South First Street near Turtle Creek Drive near my neighborhood in South Austin. I can actually see the building one street over from mine day and night, and I'm able to see the crane at night (when it's lit) through the trees from the top of our street. The building will probably be visible there at night once they light it, but probably only in the wintertime since the tree canopy is thick.
This is a couple of blocks south from the above photo. I can also see the spire at night and the sign on the Fairmont Hotel along here, along with the W Hotel, 360, 500 West Second, Northshore, One American Center, Ashton, Colorado Tower and the Frost Bank Tower.
