I see what you mean. Even one or two holes in a streetscape like this can have a huge negative impact. There is such a difference between a consistent wall of buildings on both sites of the street and a gap-toothed streetscape of buildings mixed in with empty lots. Downtown Halifax is going to feel much nicer when it is more reliably built up and you can walk along most paths without encountering dead zones of empty lots and blank walls.
If Queen's Marque is built, along with something on the empty lot on George Street by the Dennis Building, there will be the equivalent of 32 block area or so north of Sackville Street with very little surface parking.
Soon Spring Garden Road won't have any major surface lots north of Clyde Street.
Unfortunately the stretch south of Sackville Street down to the seaport area has tons of surface lots (many of these were former industrial sites). It will probably take a long time to fill in. The Cunard block development will be one nice improvement for that area.
