Similar to the JW Marriott which actually "broke ground" in August of 2012 with an opening date in early 2015. 2 1/2 yrs, so if The Fairmont breaks ground in May and complete by fall of 2017 giving it a good 3 years to complete everything, plus this will be taller than the JW Marriott so much more time will be needed to complete the structure of the building.

More than just the one (in post #484) on the corner of Red River and Cesar Chavez?

You'll have to host them on site like Photbucket then link to it with the "insert image" option when you create your post. (Don't bother with Flickr because it's worthless for hosting unless you want to pay them.)

This is why I think there is more going on than we officially know.

I recommend using imgur.com. It's really user-friendly.

I just drove past the signs! I'm so mad someone scooped me first Billboard-level stuff boys. I think they're really getting ready for blast-off now.

It's not that hard to put up a sign. I can't imagine they are close to break ground if they just signed a construction permit. Unless they can start excavating land before they are 100% with how the thing will be built from a contracting stand point. I think late 2014 if we are lucky.

How soon will it before those signs get tagged?

They wouldn't spend the effort or money on the signs if they were not close to breaking ground. If it wasn't a big deal about signs, then they would have put them up when the first announced the project.

....why?

It was being used for other purposes until a couple weeks ago. They put those signs up whenever they block off the lot for construction. I can't imagine the firm saying, "Guys, we're spending hundreds of millions of dollars on this hotel but we can't afford to print these small billboards until we are about to break ground."

Shoot...I was hoping they would have streamlined the tower and made it a bit taller (very wishful thinking). In any case, I will be extremely happy when they break ground.

Considering the "flat" face of the building will be parallel to Cesar Chavez, this building is going to make a huge impact on the skyline from the north and south.

Possibly the coolest part is that it will pretty much block that hideous Hilton building from the south. And at least make it stand out less from everywhere else.

Unfortunately, it'll only block the Hilton from the south.

We need large projects at ...

4th and Red River (the SE block)
The block bounded by 35, Sabine, 4th, and 5th
The block bounded by 35, Sabine, 6th, and 7th

... to fully block the eyesore that is the Hilton.

The Hilton looked kinda nice when it was first built and it still isn't so bad at night, but I guess it does look bland compared to our newer buildings.

The only way it could possibly look good is at night. It and its companion building has little to no architectural features that would give them any interesting visual elements. I gave them a facelift in my what if thread that I believe is feasible and a much needed improvement.
Those two buildings plus the APD Headquarters are a blight on our skyline and
unfortunately right off I35. At least the current and new buildings going up along the interstate are soooooo much nicer. With the Fairmont in place, we might not even notice the Hilton GI.

I swear to god I heard a few years ago that the APD headquarters was going to be moving to this location. Whatever happened with that? They need to move already, and tear that old piece of crap down.
