GM MG is just as arrogant as Burke, at least Burke knows how to trade well.

How many situations has he mishandled?

Luongo just got traded to the Panthers!!!

We got Jacob Markstrom + Shawn Matthias. Markstrom is a good young goaltender(just turned 24), and could easily end up being a top tier goaltender. This is a great trade for the Canucks. We got rid of most of Luongo's crazy contract (we retain15%), and somehow manage to acquire what could amount to a replacement for Schneider. Matthais is a big guy that is an NHL regular that will make the Canucks harder to push around.

Markstrom is a 24 year old with 43 career NHL games. He's having a terrible year and is on pace for fewer NHL games than last season's career high (23). Interesting definition of NHL regular.

It's a good trade in that his salary is gone and they can start the rebuild (trade Kesler and the Sedins too) but that's it. Don't expect Schneider calibre.

LOL!

The Canucks already had Schneider. The whole point of trading Luongo was to keep Schneider, the Canucks' future franchise goaltender, while acquiring a big time player. If Gillis had offered to retain 15% of Luongo's salary last year, then the Canucks would have acquired some high-calibre talent and still have Schneider today. Schneider wouldn't need replacing.

But Gillis has now lost both Luongo and Schneider (two top NHL goaltenders) and has almost nothing to show in return.

This last year has been a total comedy of errors.

Only a miracle could prevent Gillis' firing this summer.

To be precise, I said Matthais is an NHL regular. He's a big guy and is solid defensively. A 3rd line with him and Kassian would would be hard to play against.

Your lack of knowledge is showing. Maybe you're not aware that the Canucks acquired Bo Horvat for Schneider. People who follow hockey would not call Horvat a nothing player. The outcome of this trade will not be known for 2 or 3 years. Horvat is blue chip prospect. You seriously didn't know that?

Yeah the Luongo situation was a fiasco because of his crazy contract that made him untrade-able. You have no idea, besides rumours, what was being offered for Luongo.

Luongo turns 35 in one month. Markstrom just turned 24, which is young for a goal tender. By the way, Markstrom had no goalie coach in Florida, so he will benefit from being with an organization that pays more attention to goaltending. This is another trade that will not be decided for another few seasons. This could turn out to be a huge steal.

Getting rid of Luongo's contract is huge. It frees up space to sign some scoring through free agency. The Canucks still have a strong supporting cast, but they obviously need a sniper or 2.

My mistake. Matthias will be useful as a grinder, I agree.

I said "almost" nothing, the point being that the Canucks didn't get nearly what they should have for two top-tier, elite NHL goaltenders. If you don't realize that, then your lack of knowledge is showing.

For what it's worth, every member of Trade Centre on TSN and Hockey Central on Sportsnet agrees with me, not you.

Wow, Gillis is an absolute mess.

He's given up Hodgson, Schneider, and Luongo with nothing to show for it.

Did the Canucks get enough in return for Roberto Luongo? The NHL on TSN panel doesn't think so and questions GM Mike Gillis' decision-making:

Bo might turn out to be a good player, that's unknown at this point. What is known is that Schneider is a great player.
The old expression bodes well here, a bird in the hand is worth more then 2 in the bush.

I won't criticize today trade because the fact is Luongos contract is a mess of the Canucks doing and made him almost untradeable. The trade is the best we could probably get, but it's still fair game to criticize the contract they signed him to, and getting rid of Schneider the way they did only to end up in today situation.

What a meltdown last night

I wonder how everything would turn out if the other ownership group got the Canucks (Gaglardi +)

Canucks terminate the concession contract with Aramark.

Two weeks ago I went to my very first Canucks game! Too bad that the home team had to lose 5-0.

Oh man, the season is over.

Canucks played well in the sixth game, but that penalty for goalie interference changed everything. Shame, as they played a more skillfully and as a team in Game Six.

Maybe next season is ours...

It seems like they over-achieved in the regular season and came back down to earth in the playoffs. Older D is getting exposed, that's something to work on in the offseason.

That being said, Calgary will be out pretty quick against Anaheim, Canucks would too.

One major bright spot for the Canucks in the play-offs was Bo Horvat. He was far more effective than Bonino, our supposed 2nd line centre. Horvat should be the #2 centre next year. Trade Bonino. He reminds me of Mason Raymond. Our forward depth is still good, with the Sedins showing that they still have it, but our defence is declining fast. Edler is a big strong cream puff. Maybe trade him too, if there's a decent offer. We have a lot of great prospects in junior, so I think the Canucks will stay competitive for awhile.
