Texas license plates taking on old look

There's a photo of one of the plates at the link.

Texas license plates taking on old look

Texas license plates, which have undergone almost constant change since the Legislature in 1917 first required cars and trucks to have them, are about to take a turn for the simple.

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles has ditched the 2009 version, which had a dark blue mountain range along the bottom, a red-white-and-blue Texas map and a mostly sky-blue background, in favor of a plain, black-and-white "Texas Classic" plate with slightly larger letters and numbers. It resembles Texas plates of the 1960s, '70s and '80s.

The point, officials say, is to make the plates more visible to law enforcement officers.

I like it. The more simple the plate, the better. It's simple, but not boring.

I like California's plate because it's simple. But at the same time, it's boring.

Already? That was fast! Didn't like the current plate during the voting period, and still don't care for it. Granted it grew on me a little.. was just too colorful though. Like this one more, but just blah and plain. Favorite still has to be the 2000-2008. Lucky for me that's the one I still have on my car. Also liked the style from the 90's Simple, but had some color.

They should of went with the skyline plate that was the best one of them all. The new old style plates are ok, I so happen to like the mountains in the background but not the paint brush color on top it kind of looks tacky in my opinion.

I like the classic look more than these colorful plates. I am glad they changed it.

Saw the new plate on a car today while walking in a parking lot , looks plain but not as bad as I thought.

The new black and white plates look boss on my XB. The custom black with white lettering ones are really nice. They came out with some other custom ones too. Ive seen pink plates rolling around which are pretty cool.

Texas changes its mind on plates more often than Delta changes the color of its airplanes.

I've always liked the Colorado plates, but here's a list of the top and bottom 5 with pictures.

I like the more elaborate designs. They make Texas look unique when driving in a foreign state.

Cowboy on the bottom, space shuttle on the top. A true classic!
