Lyon! A skyline in the making. Puts Central Paris to shame.

Here compared to downtown Cincinnati, for an idea of size:

It seems that lowrise cities are becoming an endangered species worldwide!

It absolutely drives me crazy when people don't state where a picture is of. Yes, for the people putting it up it's obvious. For the rest of us in the world who don't live within a continent of it, could you please show a little consideration ?

^Yes, I agree. The only one on this page that isn't noted is La Defense (Paris) from New Brisavoine. I think the rest are identified, on this page at least.

Nah. Lyon will always be a lowrise city, and a handful of towers doesn't change that. But all European cities will have a small cluster or scattered highrises.

Actually, having a city centre dominated by a handful of large towers kind of does change things. Not if they were in a peripheral area like Canary Wharf or La Defense, but if they were in the centre of the city, I would consider that to no longer be a lowrise city. I mean, even most North American cities consist of a city centre dominated by a handful of large towers with most of the buildings in the city and metro area being lowrises. But of course we're all entitled to our opinions.

Well actually these towers are all in the eastern edge of Part-Dieu, which isn't really the city center. It's closer than La Defense or Canary Wharf, because Lyon is a smaller city, but it's not the shopping/entertainment/tourist part.

The center of Lyon will continue to look like this:

^^La Part-Dieu is very central. It's literally within walking distance of your picture.

The latest skyscraper built (Tour Incity in the pictures above) is as close to the street in your picture as One WTC in NYC from Canal Street subway station.

I know. I've walked it. But Lyon is a fairly small city... the distances aren't going to be equivalent to NY or London or Paris. And if you want to, you can walk from the Champs Élysées to La Defense as well.

La Défense is much further away. It's not comparable.

I took these pictures in the Medieval heart of Lyon last week. The buildings surrounding me were built in the 16th century.
