I like it, all the other ideas are non skyscrapers and this would be the perfect place for a skyscraper so it's hard to like them although the underground theater is pretty badass.

Related did say they had something "architecturally significant" in mind, although I take it these ideas are thought up by random people and have no chance of actually being built.

That building is nice, looks to be around 800' tall. I do prefer the other twin tower design by Related though.

The skyscraper plan is actually 1280' tall.

Doesn't seem like a real proposal but hopefully related surprises us with something nice.

I just hope what is built will use the spent costs of a 1/4 billion foundation to their credit.

If any of those renders are real is look like they would be.

I know, it's the perfect foundation and location for a supertall.

They should aim to pass Sears, since it's been the tallest building for over 40 years... just sayin'

I know this may seem like a stupid question, but is there anything keeping them from building the exact spire as it was intended? This other tower that has been proposed seems like it will essentially serve the same purpose as the spire was to.

Anyways, I am happy to see that there is one good proposal that will presumably take advantage of the foundations that were built for the spire to support a unique building. Almost all of the other proposals were garbage.

Rest in peace to one heck of an ambitious project.

Agreed, this looks gorgeous, better than the spire. If only it was an actual proposed tower. : (

Any news on what's going to happen to this site? Most recently, there's been this proposal for 400 Lake Shore Drive Towers, which is two towers (One 1,100 feet and the other 850 feet):

But this has been proposed for a decent while and no news on if it's actually happening. I kind of hope it doesn't because this site is perfect for a 2,000ft megatall skyscraper like the Spire. I really wish there could be a revival of the Spire. They should have the money by now for it, right?

Nice but a little overkill, even 2k feet would have looked realistically good on Chicago's skyline

I wonder why no builder has considered resuming the FORDHAM SPIRE project and building two towers. One in New York and one in Chicago. Would be great.

Ohh I didn't even notice it was in the never built section

I saw an aerial from Chitown today and it looked like they've built on the site, mind you one of the buildings looked like a low rise

Dead By Design #6: The Chicago Spire In Streeterville

Quote:
As the sixth entry in our Dead by Design series, the Chicago Spire was a proposed 150-story “megatall” skyscraper that was to be located at the mouth of the Chicago River in Streeterville. At 2,000 feet in height, it would have been the tallest building in the United States and the third-tallest building in the world (soon to be fourth with the incoming completion of Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur).

Such a shame it was never completed
