"Just Kidding!", Weingarten Realty says about a plan to develop new retail along North Shepherd by tearing down a '50s-vintage Sears. However, the original plan is intriguing, especially if they can incorporate Sears into the site plan...

OAKS ON SHEPHERD
Weingarten: Tearing Down North Shepherd Sears Was Just Our Suggestion to Sears

"A SCHEME to demolish the 1949 Sears building at 4000 N. Shepherd Dr. and the Pine Forest Business Park behind it and replace it with an “Americana”-themed shopping center headlined by a new Sears store and a supermarket is only part of an unsolicited proposal sent to the national retailer, a representative of Weingarten Realty tells Swamplot. A brochure describing aspects of the proposal, which would replace the Streamline Moderne department store between Garden Oaks and Independence Heights with a higher density shopping center that the body copy implied would be styled in a manner akin to the residential designs of Frank Lloyd Wright, was posted online by the publicly traded REIT earlier this week..."

Construction activity ramps up in the Brazosport:

As Houston prepares to cool, Lake Jackson's building boom heats up

One would think there should be opportunities for those who build facilities to store plastics and to attract users of those plastics to produce products (e.g., Sterilite), so new warehouse and industrial properties should be starting to appear. We'll see.

Recession? What recession?

Homebuyers line up — some overnight — for new east Houston community

Prefab housing comes to the Heights:

Green builder aims to transform Houston housing with kit homes

That west to east shift brings more residences to Baytown:

CastleRock Communities buys land for Baytown development

And in Shenandoah:

Avanti Senior Living to open community in Shenandoah

There seems to be no let-up in demand for Houston industrial properties:

Stream Realty logs 1 million square feet in industrial deals in 2015

And more medical office buildings:

Transwestern Leasing New Medical Office Under Construction

I just now saw the info on housing developments on the industrial east side. What many Houstonians don't know is that there have been very nice residential areas in that area for decades. I think most Houstonians assume that there can't possibly be nice housing in an industrial region. But there are.

More civic effort to brighten the corner where you are. This time Broadway, between I-45 and Hobby Airport.

Broadway to be spruced up
