O closed just a couple of weeks ago. It was a matter of time- they got consistently horrible reviews (on urbanspoon at least) and issues with turnover, not to mention the curse of "executive chef" Food Network hack David Adjey. What a waste.

Avenue Mag have a pair of guides that are a good resource. The Calgary Shopping Guide (which includes food retailers) and the Calgary Dining Guide.
The Dining Guide lists 366 restaurants in the Calgary area, which isn't complete but gives one plenty of places to choose from. Wonderful to see how dynamic the dining scene is.
I'm sorry to hear about O but I'm not surprised.

I have to admit, the word "poutinerie" makes my thighs quiver. So far the best I've had in western Canada is the fare offered at Nakiska, oddly enough.

I'll have to try one of these 5 Guys burgers when I'm back in town next month.

For now I'll stick to A&W. I tried the Grandma Burger today and it was godly.

Not sure exacactly. I was speaking with one of the owners over the weekend. He mentioned the location (roughly) and that the lease was signed on Friday. They are shooting to be open by June

Rusty you must be really pleased to see that River Cafe was given Readers Choice in Avenue Mag as one of the best Restaurants in Calgary. Too bad you can't PM that chick from TO on Chowhound.

Avenue's resto edition is one of the best I've seen in any city mag anywhere. No awarding Starbucks "best coffee," good writing, a great guide we can be proud of.

I walked by Spoon Me and it sure looks closed. I'm a fan of that korean style fro-yo (Pinkberry, which Spoon Me and its ilk are copying) but I'll take gelato over fro-yo ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Especially great since Fiasco has improved so much since the founder sold it- you can get it at Famoso btw.

I liked the burger, but not everyone in our group liked it or finished eating it.
$40 cash for half an hour of my time, and I got to eat a burger, was ok with me!

Big Cheese is now open, they've got all sorts of stuff. There's a beef section of the menu I want to try out.

I can't remember if I read it hear or somewhere else, but I heard there was a change of owners and they might not open a location in Calgary now or something to that effect.

^^Yes!

1. Be hungry. how many people are going?
2. Get the Charcut board, a selection of charcuterie. It's amazing, but always different. It's big though, went with my brother and his wife, we could barely finish it.
3. Poutine

That's a pretty good deal if a $36 item is almost too much for 3 people.

I have got to get my ass to Charcut one of these days. Thinking of doing a one night stay at Le Germain in May, will definitely book dinner there if it comes together.
