Not sure what the plan is for Winnipeg Square. There was talk sometime back that a single restaurant tenant was interested in taking over the whole 201 Portage food court area including all the related outlets. Perhaps they have moved their plan to Winnipeg Square near the lottery kiosk/fake log cabin store. That is starting to be a pretty decently sized vacancy footprint.

Also the lottery kiosk might make more sense moved into one of the small stalls opposite Shopper's.

I would assume that it all has to do with the impending construction of the 300 Main apartment tower.

^^ Biff, the lottery kiosk was at the bottom of the mall level access for the existing tower so it is relatively far away from the new tower. It is possible that the Chamberlin's space is being used in part for the tower as it would seem to fall directly under its planned location.

....aaah, I am not familiar where everything is down there, just speculating. I would say though that even a space quite far removed from the 300 main area could be involved in a grander shuffling of space to accommodate necessary work zones.

NW Costco?

Could this be the long-rumored new Costco location for northwest Winnipeg? Looks like they're hiring for it.

That doesn't seem right for a new location. It could be where they are hiring but there is virtually no parking and seems like a very odd spot for a retail store. The building was just recently redone and its configuration doesn't seem to fit a Costco orientation.......stranger things have happened before.

That's exactly what I was going to say. Inkster Blvd struck me as an odd location for Costco since there isn't any significant retail anywhere near it once you get away from McPhillips... and that particular site seems like the weirdest choice for a Costco store. Maybe that's the temporary administrative office or some such?

The original rumoured location up on McPhillips near CPT seems far more likely a choice.

Interesting choice of Costco location, 1750 Inkster Blvd, if it is true. The site seems to have more limited parking than their newer stores. It would also seem to be both further south and further west than the previously rumored locations, almost to the point of being too close to the St James location. The northwest Costco rumors are based around more the rural areas north of Winnipeg and West and East St Paul than really trying to service demand from Winnipeg. Definitely an interesting choice if it is a new Costco store.

I'm guessing that they have some centralized office space in this building or do some distribution out here. Costco parking lots in Winnipeg are undersized as it is (at least on the weekend) and I can't see them limiting parking even more.

Interesting about Costco. Few points on that hiring location list. It looks like all on there have opened recently or are under construction with the exception of Winnipeg and Richmond which as far as I can tell have no formal announcements of new stores. Also those two listed locations are only hiring pharmacy where as the remainder have many positions. Also of note the street address given for the Richmond location looks equally strange for a new Costco. Also the leasing for 1750 Inskter lists 66 parking stalls, where Costco's have 300+ stalls. It must just be a placeholder address for temp space.

Not at all. If you Google Street View the area, you will see that it's an odd location for a Costco.

I guess the one on St. James St. went up in what was then a similar industrial area, but these days it seems that most new Costcos anchor larger shopping areas.

The listings are all recently opened or under construction Costco locations. Save for Winnipeg and Richmond which are non-existent.

Further to what h0twired said, it's odd that they'd be hiring for a location that hasn't even broken ground... what's the point in hiring part time retail staff now for a job that wouldn't even be needed for at least another year and some, assuming that construction of the store actually began today?

Costco is not exactly Jim Bob's Flea Market... they won't be setting up shop in an old warehouse.

The two locations on the list that are non-existent have only postings for pharmacy positions. Would that require a longer lead time?
