I wish this was going at the 801 Barton Springs location. This is a nice looking midrise.

Is that the proposed building that's going up on 4th and Colorado?

This looks like an updated version of an older project of the same name that was scheduled to break ground in 2010 at 14th & Lavaca but was cancelled. This is/was next to the Double Tree Guest Suites.

There was a thread for Capitol Terrace back in 2009.

Yeah, the only Capitol Terrace I remember is that one (14th & Lavaca).

This was the original rendering we saw for it back then.

Here's a decent Statesman article about YIMBYs:

That's an interesting article - thanks for sharing. I think it's fair to both sides. Not all development is good development, but it also isn't all bad either. I think the guy who wants a street where his kid can ride a bicycle has a great point, but so does the guy who wants a grocery store on 45th. This is why polarized arguments without open-minded discussion isn't going to get us anywhere, however. All sides need to be willing to come to the table and discuss - and compromise. The bottom line for me, of course, is that urbanization makes more sense (if smartly done) - but that doesn't mean that a kid shouldn't have a place to ride a bike safely.

It's quite a bit of a false dichotomy.

It's not like the areas of Crestview that haven't seen redevelopment are empty of parked vehicles and paragons of safe streets.

Rather, they're all absolutely full of parked vehicles. Because the old houses have minimal off-street parking, and much of what there is has been converted to living space. And no sidewalks.

Yeah, I'm in agreement with you. I'm thinking more theoretically rather than in their particular situation. I'll confess I'm not familiar with the Crestview neighborhood because there wasn't much to the newer development when I last lived in Austin. I'm gonna claim ignorance on what it's like now. If there are no sidewalks, that should certainly be fixed. I guess my main point is that all sides should be listened to - but that also means that all sides should do the listening. In this discussion of the direction of the city as a whole, as well as on the smaller level of neighborhoods, so many folks want a voice, but no one wants to listen to others.

It's too difficult to keep up with all the mid-rises - especially in West Campus. So I don't recall if anyone (or even me for that matter ) posted about 2414 San Gabriel. There were a bunch of permits filed for it today.

https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=11359596

It's probably deserving of its own thread at 11-stories (five parking, six residential). But I can't tell if any of the parking is underground.

Thanks. That means all five parking levels are underground.

No, it's probably a Texas wrap where the units are wrapped around the above ground parking garage.

No. It has five levels of underground parking. You pick mundane things to argue about.

You're good. I was wrong. Happily so, actually, because that means more space for units above ground.

I'm surprised we aren't talking about this (x-posted to Projects and Construction, Plaza Saltillo, and East Austin threads):

Quote:
The vision/conceptual plan is by Torti Gallas and Partners. Michael Hsu is the lead local architect, so the aesthetics will match the design sensibilities of his other popular projects, including the ZACH Theatre, 04 Mixed-Use Development (Perla’s), and Lamar Union.

Before breaking down the details on the final Plaza Saltillo development, I’ll venture a guess that the office tenant will be a major tech company. I find it peculiar that there was no office space envisioned when Endeavor pitched to become the site developer, which leads me to believe the office space is not being built on spec, but on the signed line of an anchor tenant. Further, I’ve heard recently from a credible source that a major Fortune 500 tech giant is flirting with a sizable investment in Austin’s urban core. Again, this is just a semi-informed guess, but there you have it.
