Not as of this morning. Every morning for the last two weeks, while it looks finished, there's been one or two service vehicles: I've noticed city trucks and Georgia Power

Maybe they're timing it to coincide with today ribbon cutting on the Westside Trail?

The waiting is the hardest part......

I heard on WABE this morning that the Eastside Trail extension south of Irwin is expected to open "in the next two months."

Yesterday I spoke to a survey crew along the original east side trail, and they indicated they were surveying the underground utilities. I asked if it was for lighting and they kind of agreed, so perhaps that is moving forward.

The fence was removed as of this morning. There was a little warning note on one of the bollards but I couldn't read it in the rain. Hopefully it's finally official!

I just walked on the trail south of Irwin on Saturday. Ofc, it ends fairly quickly because of the apartments under construction between Edgewood and Dekalb.

Yeah but it's nice to be able to take that ramp and stairs from Edgewood and not have it end in a mudpit anymore.

Absolutely this. It opens up all the retail and residences along Edgewood avenue to the rest of the beltline in a more streamlined fashion. Several people used it previously, but many would cut around Irwin if they even went south or west of KSM.

City of Atlanta pledges $60 million to buy remainder of BeltLine corridor

https://saportareport.com/city-atlan...line-corridor/

Quote:
The City of Atlanta has agreed to allocate $60 million to Atlanta BeltLine Inc. for the acquisition of real estate along the 22-mile corridor.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed made the announcement at the ribbon-cutting of the one-mile extension of the Eastside Trail that connects the Reynoldstown and Cabbagetown communities.

Currently, the Atlanta BeltLine owns about half of the 22-mile corridor, and it has been identifying land and negotiating with property owners to acquire the remainder of the corridor.

The partnership hopes to raise $5.75 million to be able to construct an interim trail (cleared but not paved) along the 22-mile corridor. Brawner said that 100 percent of his board already has contributed to the effort, and it has raised slightly more than $1 million.

Quote:
Negotiations with Georgia Power to facilitate some work of a segment of the Northeast Trail that would extend to Buckhead are still ongoing, but Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. said at a public meeting Feb. 15 that the segment could be completed by the end of 2020, which is earlier than originally expected.

questions:
-is the eastside trail expansion (phase 2) that goes like 1500 feet or so between kirkwood and memorial funded and currently under construction?

-when is the southside trail between university avenue and bill kennedy way expected to get funding or start construction?

Atlanta Beltline funding bill before Georgia House

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/...gia-house.html

Quote:
The Atlanta Beltline could get a new source of funding under legislation before the Georgia House of Representatives.

House Bill 642 would create a "special improvement district" along the Beltline modeled after the community improvement districts that began cropping up across metro Atlanta back in the late 1980s.

The self-taxing district would be formed subject to the agreement of at least 51 percent of commercial property taxpayers along the Beltline or taxpayers owning at least 75 percent of the assessed value of commercial properties.

The tax revenue raised by the district would be used strictly for construction projects along the 22-mile Beltline corridor, including trails, not for transit projects or private development, McGowan said.

Public private partnership.

Serious question: what % and sections of the BeltLine trail expansion is left unfunded with the approval of last year's T-SPLOST? Where and how much is the gap in funding?

I'll be headed to Atlanta in a few weeks and am looking for suggestions on the best sections of the beltline to either walk or bike. I'm looking for great skyline views, interesting architecture, best landscaping, etc.
