This thread was based on an article from the AJC, which, IMO, is worthy of discussion.

I think this thread should not be Atlanta vs Charlotte but what they could learn from each other.
Charlotte by population is larger than Atlanta, but Atlanta metro is far bigger.

Some time when your metro has many counties around the center City/county, like Atlanta it is hard to get everyone working together. I don't think the NC or Georgia legislative body has done Charlotte or Atlanta many favors. The work for both cities is to get legislators around their states to understand their needs.

In Charlotte the NC house and Senate wants to take the airport away from the city.

This should be Atlanta and Charlotte battle the State.

Agreed. Both cities are dynamic, but even so they are often held back by the rural mentality of most of the rest of the state. This is particularly the case with Atlanta, but it is a common issue from NYC, Chicago, etc. There is an anti urban mentality that tends to dominate state politics, despite the fact that most of the wealth is generated in the urban areas. This is particularly the problem in the support of any type of mass or public transit. While both Charlotte and Atlanta try to have good transit systems, they still lack solid governmental funding for it.

This has really only been recently true of Charlotte, since the GOP took over the Legislature. Otherwise, the relationship between the state of NC and Charlotte hasn't been so bad, an incomplete I-485 notwithstanding.

On the other hand, this has been true of Atlanta and the state of GA since forever.

Charlotte isn't even in the same tier as Atlanta.

Doesn't mean you can't compare them. And besides, they are economic competitors.

Dude, you have to use spell-check. Like, really. Really, and one more Really

In actual news: I'm super-excited that Charlotte's ballpark turned out so great! I lived there in 1997 (First Union, baby!) and thought there was a ton of potential. God speed!
