It is a lot faster to lay a floor of concrete(this will be over 1/1.5 floors a week) than it is to install dozens of glass panels and then install utilities, and then design and decorate an office. You cant just toss in some ikea desks and laptops and call it a day with Class A office space. So yes it is very likely and necessary to spend at least a year fitting this out completely before move-in.

Ironic that you mention freedom tower/1 WTC.....a building that topped out in August 2012 and wont open until August 2014.
OK..... This gets under my skin the most. If you want to Jump into a dated conversation that was done last week. PLEASE make sure you read through every ones feedback instead of trying to sound smart because it backfires. Read my original conversation starter. I specifically posted " the show was filmed the first week of January, before the foundation was poured"... so all the dates you have posted trying to add numbers up are incorrect... and which means it will be topped out in july/august which is mid next year......

MY original response was to someone who has sense edited their response when they said "the skeleton goes up and THAN the cladding goes up" no no no. in most new tower construction, LIKE the freedom tower, cladding goes up while the skeleton is going up. that is ALL I was trying to say.

Its ironic that I mention the freedom tower? if anyone who has a true love for tall buildings like myself, they should know that freedom tower, with all its documentaries on the history channel, took FOREVER to top out and YEARS to actually complete for a host of reasons. I used the freedom tower as an example of how buildings are cladded in the process of construction. NOT how fast a building should be completed.....And no one mentioned using "ikea desk furniture" in the Wilshire grands office space....especially when this building will actually be majority hotel..........

I do feel its Ironic that you felt the need to mention freedom tower....even though I used a host of other examples that you decided to ignore for obvious reasons. Library Tower/ US bank tower, tallest in LA and similar to size to the Wilshire grand took 2 years to completely finish. took a little more than a year to top out, less than 6 months to clad and a little more to complete for an opening. same with Cal Plaza 2, also one of LAs tallest, completed in 2 years and same goes for a couple of LAs towers built in the 80's -90's......

I for one like every ones input though. and thanks for yours

^^^ Yeah I've heard both start dates 89-90. It broke ground in 89, prep work begin but actual ground up construction and excavation started in 1990.. ended in mid/late 92.

Now that I have accidentally derailed the thred, sorry people, any new pictures or updates on the Wilshire Grand ? I meant to take a ride down there today but since im clueless on how to post pictures on here, I figured it was pointless.

Might be Takami. Somebody else shot those, I just found them on flickr and thought it was cool to see the site from a different angle.

I'm no expert, but looking at previous pictures (see on page 84), it looks like a staging area for the concrete forms that encased that big sarcophagus in the middle of the building. To me, it doesn't look like it will be part of the permanent structure.

Now that I've looked back at the pictures that is what it looks like. I have also heard those columns will be filled with concrete.
