The developer of Debut Waterfront Residences in Barrie literally took the scariest block in Barrie, far from the waterfront, and sold it to idiotic foreign investors lol.

Junction Point: beautiful design wasted on a subpar neighborhood/terrible intersection with traffic and especially GO train noise

Podium is only going to get worse. 43 storey tower in Kelowna? Who cares when they look like this! Kelowna can't do underground parking as with the other 43 storey tower going up. It's not the geology. It's the local engineers; none drafted in the first round ... or the second.

I'm sure they have the know-how. I assume (with no knowledge of the project) that the developer doesn't want to pay for that much excavation. Maybe they're close to the water table too, given the proximity to the lake? Of course, anything is possible $$$.

Crane count: while numbers have a diminished a bit with projects topping out, there are still 183 active cranes in the City of Toronto and another 41 in Mississauga/Peel.

It's in reference to the other 43 storey ... the only multi-level deep excavation in the city ... causing surrounding properties to slump.

Reality is more entertaining than fiction

Kelowna is going down the wrong path with tall tower developments that belong in Brickell, Miami.

Setting aside, Kelowna does have a lot of parallels with Kitchener Waterloo. Like really hideous generic towers on parking podiums, acres of parking lots and endless suburban sprawl.

Limberlost is limberfound. Turned out great except for the bridge. It's not on the main street facade.

Beams on the transfer slab create a bridge across the subway which will transfer the weight of the towers back down to bedrock.

Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | Waterfront Toronto l u/c

This gorgeous Wilkinson Eyre pedestrian bridge design called “Equinox” was won the international design competition for a new pedestrian connecting Quayside to the new parks of Villiers Island over the Keating Channel.

Indigenous consultants Two Row Architect and Zeidler were on the design team. The orientation of the bridge’s curves align with the summer solstice sunset and the winter solstice sunrise. The Feds have kicked in $9million towards construction.

The winning design also complements the curves of all the other new bridges. Below you can glimpse the Cherry Street twins and the 2 span Commissioners Street Bridge, in front of the of the large Pinewood Studios complex on the eastern part of the Portlands.

Nothing original over the design. Added bonus have to walk twice as far as the river's actual width.

The solstice thing may just be the best trivia in a Toronto design competition ever.
