New City Hall portal gates to be installed!

Quote:
Art Commission Approves City Hall Portal Gates
The Art Commission on April 1 granted final approval for portal gates at City Hall, after plans were presented by Philadelphia's Department of Public Property, Vitetta, and theCenter City District (CCD). The gates were part of the original plans for the building, designed by John McArthur, but were never built.

The City of Philadelphia is funding the project through a contract with the CCD that will oversee the installation of the gates in partnership with the Department of Public Property. The gates will be stainless steel and aluminum and derived from drawings by McArthur. Installation will begin before the end of this year.

The commission also granted final approval to Public Property for Phase 1 alterations to the north apron of City Hall that will repair extensive damage to the apron, allow compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act, extend the improvements made by the CCD at Dilworth Park, and eliminate parking on much of the north apron of City Hall.
Renderings of the gates start on page 6 here

So glad this is finally happening!! Every time I walk by here I'm always annoyed by those awful chain link fences.

Now if they only restore the one subway entrance in the courtyard....

They won't be the colors in that rendering right? If they are, they should't even put them on

It looks like they just used those bright colors to boldly illustrate which pieces/sections will be made of which metal.

Cheers,
G.

Haha no. That would be pretty wild. They will be either dark bronze or black.

This will be a huge improvement over the current chain link fences. They look great. I love all the attention city hall is getting lately. It's finally getting the respect it deserves.

Looks like everyone approves of this project now. Spruce Hill Civic Association, Councilwoman Blackwell, and the CDR all approve of the project. On to the ZBA next.

The City Hall gates look magnificent! I think they look fittingly like ones you'd find on grand old public buildings in Europe.

Personally, I love her London bravado and creativity - but if she wants to get a return for her $2million investment, she needs to keep this thing simple.

Temple redoing portions of 1515 Market St.

Quote:
Improvements to the Center City campus include a wider and more inviting lobby with digital displays; a new glass and steel canopy; new exterior signage; and painting of all public areas in the 130,000-square-foot Center City campus at 1515 Market St., just west of City Hall.

The new café and bookstore, which are open to the public, offer a variety of food and drinks, textbooks, school supplies, and Temple-branded merchandise.

In addition to the exterior and first-floor renovations, Temple’s School of Media and Communication updated technology in its Multimedia Urban Reporting Lab, and the Fox School of Business enhanced its MBA student lounge, created eight breakout rooms and constructed a new Collaborative Learning Studio.

The Center City campus will also be the new home for the Pennsylvania Innocence Project, a collaboration between the Beasley School of Law and Philadelphia’s legal community.

I believe both KoJ and 1840 agreed to have rear lights into the alley. Also, if I remember correctly, 1840 will have a garage for one of its houses facing the alley. Both should improve the alley to a degree.

Wow, $2.75million doesn't go as far as it used to, I guess. They swapped out a logo, added an awning, and painted the Lobby for the low-low price of nearly $3million. Some contractor is in the South of France toasting a martini right about now.

A close friend of mine is director level at Temple. Relative to his other jobs in academia, Temple has tons of money to spend, and absolutely no discernment or discretion on how it's spent.
