Does anyone know for sure what the address is for that lot? Or that block? I was trying to look up some permits for the property with no luck. Maybe someone else will have better luck. I thought I had seen a demolition permit for the lot a while back, but I can't find it now.

Ok, that makes sense. The rendering did show it from San Jacinto. Thanks. Those permits show the demo permit and also a water and waste water "cap and plug" permit. That's a good sign.

Update as my office overlooks this lot. The BOA has been scraped and the area where the structure was has been paved over. It appears the lot will be used for SXSW events. Let's hope it's not converted to surface parking after and that site prep will get underway shortly after SXSW.

I really hope this one happens. Such an awesome location and tower....however, East DT doesn't have the best luck with projects breaking ground....

We may have jumped the gun on this one guys. Not only have they installed a shiny new surface parking lot, but they are adding streetscaping plants which likely indicates this could be around for a bit. I'm guessing that the bank's lease on the lot was pre-planned to end when the year began probably because Magellan, was planning on construction by now. Instead of having it sit there and with the Westin going up on a lot that had pay parking before, it's a way for them to utilize the lot while making money.

I wouldn't write off this project though. Magellan is a large and serious company with a long list of highrise development. They bought land in Austin for a reason and with the city's leading national economic position, you can bet they didn't buy that lot to simply put parking on it.

The estimated construction start date in Kevin's link is 02-01-15.

That timeline actually makes sense considering I always thought they wouldn't close the lot on this site until the new Brazos garage opens. Since it's coming out of the ground now, early next year sounds like a realistic time for it to open

Crazy to think with how the Westin is already changing the feel of this immediate area, this tower will shatter the norm and totally transform its neighborhood. I can't wait!

The same link with the 02/01/15 start date says the design phase is only 10% done. So, no.
But Magellan has a good track record. They have an impressive portfolio of residential high rises in Chicago, and they have only recently ventured outside of Chicago. They recently completed a residential high rise in Minneapolis and are just getting started on one in Nashville. Austin will be their third project outside of Chicago.

This is from HAIF:

Quote:
I was in the offices of bKL Architects on Thursday doing some research and interviews for HAIF's sister site, The Chicago Architecture Blog, and came across this in the model department.

This is a new skyscraper for Austin. The one on the table is a previous version. The modeler is working on the new version that will be submitted to Austin's city council on October 27th.

Unfortunately, the person I was with didn't know the name or address of the building off the top of his head. It's around 40 stories tall.

Unfortunately, that appears shorter than the original version seen on the right. I'd guess maybe around ~450 feet or so.
