Wow I had know idea that Hutto was that close to landing Tesla. But on the bright side since they said they'll keep the land for some other large company to locate there, maybe once Tesla gets there first plant in operation here in a few years, they may build there 2nd Giga factory there.

Managing Editor-
Austin Business Journal

An 86-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott is set for construction in Cedar Park, the city north of Austin that could also be under consideration for expansion by a Canadian hotel operator.

Worth Hotels LLC, based in Wichita Falls, Texas, is developing the SpringHill Suites by Marriott property at 1110 Discovery Blvd., west of State Highway 183, the company said in a statement. When the hotel opens in the first quarter of 2016, Worth Hotels will operate the facility.

The backyard project has a pretty cool website featuring video of movies filmed in Austin:

Is that a replica Moonlight Tower or one of the ones that was dismantled? I would bet it's a replica since the originals would technically be public (City of Austin) property.

Also that rendering under the "live" tab showing a skyline off in the distance, it has to be Seattle. Water, evergreen trees and mountains. The view looks like this angle of Seattle:

A view of Downtown Seattle from the Hill Country. You would have thunkit. The drought is apparently over as well. Lake Travis is looking pretty full.

Here's a rendering of the hotel:

I saw something about this months ago. Would be pretty nice especially for my field. Villa Muse was much larger in scope, too ambitious in the end. This is going to be pretty big as it is, although I don't like the fact its going to be out there. More of the prestine hills are being bulldozed and covered over. I hadn't been towards Bee Caves in a while until recently. It was dark and as I was coming over the hill on 71, I was amazed at all the lights. It's no longer a tiny village.

Yeah I was kinda surprised to see that too. The real one in my neighborhood doesn't have nearly that many cables to support it.

The current proposal is a scaled-down version of the original (the first one did not receive a recommendation from BC Planning & Zoning Commission). And, the "moonlight tower" feature is no longer in the plans.

Building space was reduced by 230,000 SF; music venue capacity reduced from 7,500 to 3,400; hotel rooms reduced from "uncapped" to 125; retail was removed entirely; max height of all structures = 47'; etc...

Actually, it's not all that bad. There will still be more sound stage space than anywhere else in Austin (and maybe Texas). The original plan was extremely ambitious...$500+ million project. Chris Milam likes to think big and then come back down to earth. He did the same thing with the HC Galleria.

Overall, I like the plan and hopes it comes to fruition.

Project OK'd by BC Planning Commission. Next up...BC City Council. If approved, phase 1 could begin in 2Q2015.

San Marcos P&Z recommends approval of 15-story building

Quote:
By Brett Thorne
Dec 10. 2014

On Dec. 9, the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of a developer’s request for an additional two stories on a building that was already planned to feature 13 stories at the corner of Concho Street and LBJ Drive in downtown San Marcos.

The mixed-use development is proposed to feature two floors of office and retail space and 326 residential units with 766 total bedrooms.

Ed Theriot, a former city of San Marcos staff member who is now with ETR Development Consulting, the firm handling the height request, said the development will offer residents an opportunity to live a lifestyle “with a reduced dependency on motor vehicles.”

Dan Alexander, the architect handling the project, said the firm’s goal is to be ready for residents to move in by 2017.

Look at the comments to the article. Someone said let's not turn San Marcos into Austin.

The general public's grasp of civil engineering and subsequent views on it is appalling. The building should actually be taller than it is proposed to be since it looks like a wall. Add more floors and slim it up so it's not a ground covering view blocking behemoth. Besides, most residential buildings are preferred to be more slender with fewer units per floor. It cuts down on noise and traffic on each floor.

Why are so many people scared of a little height?

I love that Colony Park proposal. These walkable developments elsewhere in the city are, in some ways, more exciting to me than the stuff going on Downtown because it signals a change in the city's general built environment, which is huge. It's my hope that someday the general urban landscape of Austin will resemble these developments, and that they will begin to run together and create a broader image of the city that'll be something to be envied. Keep it up!

One of the renderings from KXAN's Facebook page shows an 8-story building with several others.

Pflugerville development expected to bring in billions

Published: January 21, 2015, 5:27 pm Updated: January 22, 2015, 1:27 pm

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — The City of Pflugerville is planning ahead when it comes to the population boom in Central Texas. City council members on Tuesday approved plans for a development they project will bring billions of dollars in tax revenue over the next 30 years.

The 100-acre development is expected to be completed within five years and will have hotels, shops and restaurants. City officials say this will make the city a destination.

Construction should begin by March and all public infrastructure should be completed in the next three years.
