Kanto now spends his days on Skyscrapercity trying to make the Ryugyong Hotel look bad.

The complex is good, but I never though reflective blue glass suited NYC well.

The new complex? Well you have WTC1 which isn't bad, but the complex of other buildings competes with it. The group looks like a set of buildings that don't quite belong together yet still stand out from the rest of lower Manhattan.
Exactly. I doesn't get any clearer than this.

Two things...

1. The Ryugyong Hotel makes the Ryugyong Hotel look bad.

2. The glass is not blue.

It is the glass reflecting the sky. If I took my mirror up to the sky it would appear blue too.

Exactly. When NYC has a gray day it will reflect gray, not to mention beautiful oranges and yellows at sunrise and sunset.

It's plain and hideous. New York has lost its architectural creativity. Also, good luck on demolishing more historic buildings for glass and concrete boxes. More power to the wrecking ball!!!

Hmm...still looks blue to me

By that logic there are no blue glass towers in the world except for the ones tinted blue. As if that's necessary.

Tinted blue glass = blue glass.

Reflective clear glass = reflects the color of the sky and surroundings. And it is not a matter of "by that logic" but physics.

A building with clear glass, but reflecting the sky is NOT a blue glass building, but IS a blue building. A building with blue glass IS a blue glass building and IS a blue building. See the difference. Either way the consensus states the NEW WTC is below expectations, and doesn't suit most parts of the skyline as well as the Twins did.

What you think does not equal a consensus.

I count reflective buildings as blue buildings, as that is how they appear. They are not transparent, like the base glass of 4WTC.

Also, yeah. Too postmodernist for NYC's skyline. Still beautiful, though.

The twins were universally hated too when they were first built.

Anyone who dislikes the old WTC these days is just an anti box-er. The rest know how to appreciate all architecture.

Thank you for providing us with such a good example of the hasty generalization fallacy. The shape of the old WTC was not what I did not care for, but the way the cladding was treated.

Okay, 95% hated it for being boxy.

Why do you dislike the cladding?
